About Jayson

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

All-Around Wing - I play with high energy on both ends—slashing to the rim, knocking down open shots, and locking up on defense. Scoring Guard -I’m an aggressive scorer who can create my own shot, hit from deep, and finish through contact. 3&D Specialist - I space the floor with my shooting and take pride in guarding the other team’s best player. Playmaker - I make smart reads, get team involved!

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I stay humble, stay focused, and work like I’ve got something to prove every day. I take coaching seriously and try to lead by example. I stay locked in on my goals and always put the team first—winning matters more than stats. No matter the challenge, I keep showing up ready to work.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Outside of basketball, I volunteer at the senior home where my grandfather (a Vietnam Veteran) lives, spending time with veterans and helping out however I can. I’m also involved in community service supporting the homeless in Huntsville with serving food or assisting with housing projects. I was honored to be recognized by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for academic excellence.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Through basketball and community work, I’ve developed strong leadership and teamwork skills. I’ve learned how to communicate, stay disciplined, and stay focused on a goal—whether it’s on the court or serving others. Volunteering has also taught me the value of giving back and being consistent in how I show up for my team and my community.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I didn’t make my high school’s freshman team, but I didn’t let that stop me. I stayed focused, kept working, and later got the opportunity to try out for Oakwood Academy, where I made the JV team and started as a freshman. People have always said I was too small or not big enough—but I worked hard and use that as fuel to prove them wrong every time I step on the court.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that values both academics and athletics—somewhere I can grow as a student, as a player, and as a person. I want to be part of a program that challenges me, has a strong team culture, and feels like a family. A coaching staff that believes in development and a school where I can make an impact on and off the court is important to me.
