McLaughlin has been on a tear playing with Washington Supreme
this spring. He earned first-team all-showcase honors at RecruitLook’s Dallas Showcase in early May, and schools are taking notice. He earned mid-May offers to Cal-State Fullerton, Toledo, and local D1 Eastern Washington. The 6-foot-4 guard has really impressed with his scoring across multiple events this spring, from his deep range to his creativity in his shot creation. He’s a kid who can play at his own pace. After averaging nearly 30 points a game during the high school season, McLaughlin is keeping it rolling into summer.
One of the premier scorers in his class, McLaughlin has a smooth stroke that’s accentuated by his court vision and ability to get to his spots. Just plays with great control and understanding of his positioning versus the defense’s positioning to make good reads. That control and court vision, paired with a smooth handle, helps him affect the game in a lot of ways from the point.
Very smooth attacking close outs and was great at reading the second level of defenders to make quick adjustments and counters on drives. Just had a great presence in high traffic areas, slowed the game down in some late break scenarios, and made great passes on the go. Outstanding shooter who can get to his spots with some quick separators, but really showed off his knowledge of the game and ability to read defenses and play in control.
McLaughlin is a knockdown shooter when afforded even a little space outside and has the awareness to side-step hard closeouts or take a dribble in to get clean looks. Shows great touch on floaters and runners around the paint and finishes well with either hand from various angles at the rim.
The ultra-skilled guard had a great freshman season with Bothell and continues to trend upward as his skill set just keeps getting better. He’s a technically sound guard who can create space, has great change of speed, and can capitalize on openings with his soft touch. He’s a three-level scorer who also shows the necessary playmaking for a point guard, and as he continues to grow both physically and skill wise, he’ll be a player to track this spring and beyond. He’s taking the court with WA Supreme this AAU season.
