Jay Anderson | Prep Hoops Scout
Cross is an NCISAA State Champion going away before he travels a short distance to Charlotte to begin his career in the Conference USA. He’s a matchup nightmare at the guard position at 6-foot-4 who put on a show in leading Caldwell Academy to the NCISAA 3A State Championship. He’s shown he can finish at the rim and create in isolation with relative ease, something that should carry him at the next level. He’s set to make waves with his college-ready frame soon enough.

Sporting a stronger frame and a talented lineup, Cross showed he could still lead by example, flying around, blocking shots and making things happen around the rim. He’s a sizeable option for Caldwell Academy at 6-foot-4 who’s shown he can defend a number of different spots as well as play different roles depending on matchups. Charlotte is getting a steal!

Entering the Peach Invitational, Jaylen came off a standout June with Caldwell Academy, where he averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds while shooting an efficient 48% from the floor. Despite his CP3 team battling injuries, Jaylen made a significant impact in multiple facets of the game. His ability to get to the rim and create scoring opportunities by raising up over defenders garnered the attention of many coaches.
Jaylen’s versatility and athleticism allowed him to guard multiple positions and protect the rim effectively, even as a guard. His defensive prowess, combined with his offensive skills, made him a crucial player for his team and one to watch closely as he decides on where he will be playing college ball in the future.

. He’s a do-it-all guard prospect who’s more like a glue guy who does a lot to keep things flowing and going when he’s on the floor. He knows how to make his presence felt on both ends of the floor and looks prime for a breakout senior season. His recruitment has cooled since the fall which saw him draw offers from South Carolina, Richmond and LSU but he’s certainly a prospect college programs in the region want to get eyes on as he’ll suit up with
Team CP3
on the EYBL stage.

Had a big game with 16 points Friday evening and continued to be an impactful wing for his group, posting 7 points and 6 rebounds on Saturday. He has been very efficient and selective with his shots, making sure he gets to his spots and attacking only when he has an advantage. Been really good defensively, getting low and moving well laterally in order to stay in front of the elite guards or wings he’s had to match up with.

Cross should be a leading name once again for Team CP3 on the EYBL stage this spring/summer. He’ll have less pressure on himself to do a lot of scoring given the added options to their rotation and the continued development of his guard skill set. He’s another prospect for DI programs to keep close eyes on this weekend.
