A strong and confident ball handler, Russell is a dynamic playmaker that keeps the defense honest. Russell is also an excellent perimeter shooter, possessing not only a smooth and compact release but also the versatility to be effective off the catch and coming off pin downs and curl screens. As we approach the May live period, look for Russell to continue to shine in this NJ Panthers’ 17U HGAL backcourt.

Russell showed his two-way ability last year and will look to build off of that success heading into this season. He can defend the team’s best perimeter player and makes it difficult for players looking to get past him. His offense should take a big step this year as he has a knockdown three-point shot. Russell will look to get his shots in the catch-and-shoot and will come off of multiple screens for him to get open. Look for Russell to have a much more improved season this year.

Russell can do a lot of great things on offense but where he is most effective is in his shooting ability from downtown. His teammates are always looking for him as he runs off screens. He likes to step into the shot on the fastbreak when pulling it from long range. His release is high and quick and requires little room to to get off. Russell can stay in front of quicker guards than him and likes to wrap around from behind to poke the ball loose. He’s great at guarding inbounds passes and also using his speedy instincts.
