Purington is another prospect that we covered in the Notable Newcomers article a few weeks back and is a prospect that could end up as a riser in the next rankings. The Berwick Academy big man continues to improve his conditioning, allowing him to capitalize on his high motor for longer stretches. He’s a good passer that can operate from the elbows or out of the high post and does a good job as a roller out of ball screens and dribble hand offs. His scoring comes mostly around the rim, where he has good touch and the ability to turn over either shoulder on the low block. Defensively, he’s moving better laterally, allowing for more options in ball screen defense, while continuing to show his ability to rebound the basketball at a high clip. He should be a standout this winter for Berwick and will be a prospect to monitor in the spring.

was very productive and was help making Team 4’s offense go. He was dominant in the post, using his leverage to score buckets off the backboard or turnaround push shots straight through the net. He was confident taking threes in the corners and his form mechanics were very good, leading to higher efficiency than you may expect at first glance and being a legitimate floor spacer. He also displayed some post play-making which was intriguing, competitive rebounding on both ends, along with effort closing out on the perimeter and using his length to alter shot attempts on the defensive end. Purington’s consistency and stabilization for his team were impressive, making him another Expo standout.

Purington, another reclassed junior, has continued to improve his conditioning, allowing him to play a major role for the New England Storm this summer. A traditional big man, Purington excels as a low post scorer, screener to roller, and rim runner in transition. He has soft touch around the rim, good footwork, and is a good passer when the double team comes. He’s hard to move when he gets low post positioning and does a good job of being patient off the catch, methodically working his way into scoring position. Defensively, he’s a vocal presence on the back line that does a good job of walling up in the post and rebounding both in his area and in space. He’s another prospect that should only continue to improve over the next two years and is due for a big season at Berwick.

Jacob was one of the biggest stock risers of the day. He proved he is much more than just a tall player. Jacob is a 6-8 strong big man. He was really good on the pick and took advantage of the mismatch if the defense switched on the screens. He showed he has good hands, catching the ball high in the post, and grabbing rebounds. He was very vocal on the court, and controlled his body and finished strong at the rim through contact. What I didn’t realize until Saturday about his game was that he has the ability to stretch the floor. He was knocking down threes and showed his ability to play on the wing.
