About Jacob

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Point guard with a knack for finding a way to score, using my athleticism to dunk or block some of the biggest players and my speed to defend the opposing teams fastest or get by them, run down a loose ball, or get back and catch a fast break to defend. I play intense on both sides of the floor and try and lead my team and feed who is hot but will take over when needed.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

People who know me describe me as intense and competitive but hopefully also a good friend and hard worker. I am a little quiet by nature but am adaptive and always trying to improve and learn, using my athleticism and intellect to see how to lift my team and my game. I am adaptive and can do what the team needs, even if that means not what is the most comfortable to me.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, Finance Academy and History club. I am also a member of the Seaside Life teen volunteer group at my church.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Seaside lifeteen is a community service group that assists in preparing teens making their confirmations. I have worked for a group home with two autistic males and assisted in activities of daily living.I am the middle child in a family of 12, all athletes and all competitive but also my closest friends. I am the captain of the basketball and soccer teams.These have all contributed to my skills.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Sophomore year, I broke my hand at basketball tryouts. Junior year, I sprained my ankle and got covid the first week of the season. We had a new coach who was getting to know people and it was the worst time to be out. I did get my chance, and we did start winning when I did, and I am captain next year and we hope to win the ISL.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for an academically rigorous college where I can play basketball.

Bigger guards think they can punk Pichay, but try again. He’s tougher than you, better conditioned than you, a better athlete than you, and probably more skilled than you. He’s got a very quick first step that allows him to get to wherever he wants to on the court, and he’s got an uncanny athleticism at the rim that allows him to finish over much taller players. He can also score from the mid range and three with his nice-looking jump shot. High level D3’s are considering Pichay, and they should be, but I bet he could even play at the D2 level.
