Jacob submitted his highlights from the recent Prep Hoops The Expo for review. He was one of the best sophomore guards at the event, and he’s a guy I’m excited to see at Lake Wylie High School this winter. Gibson is at his best with the ball in his hands running the offense, and he can beat you in a variety of ways. He’s got a very good feel for finding open shooters on the perimeter and bigs around the rim as extra defenders collapse around him, but he also showed flashes as an elite scorer with a couple of very tough buckets.

Another smaller guard for the team but he was fearless on both ends of the floor. The duo of Jacob and Jahlil proved to be a tough out for any team’s backcourt. Jacob demonstrated true floor general moments by constantly communicating and letting his teammates know where to be. The passing was supreme with either hand and the low turnover rate proved why his ability to diagnose coverages was at an all-time high yesterday.

It was tough for anyone to stay in front of Jacob, but he abused bigger defenders in switch situations. Excellent blow by speed mixed with the crafty ball handling led to either layups or wide-open threes for the others on the floor. Feisty defender who can guard 94-feet without fouling but also be a plus defender off the ball. His quick hands led to numerous deflections and steals.

One of my favorite Point Guards that I was introduced to this summer is Gibson. Jacob was a good watch for Lake Wylie early in June, showcasing a really good feel for leading his team on and off the floor. His feel for setting others up and ability to break down a defense were two things that stood out, so I’m interested to see him over a larger sample size running the team this year.

From the early indications, Jacob Gibson Jacob Gibson 5'9" | PG Lake Wylie | 2029 State SC will be the vocal leader and Point Guard for this Lake Wylie team. Gibson was a key piece as a freshman at Clover last season, and now joins the first-year program led by Jonah Corn. This young lefty has a good feel for running an offense despite his age, and his ability to penetrate the defense and find shooters was on display all day Wednesday. If he can continue to grow physically and get acclimated with his new team, Jacob could be a really nice player in the near future with some intrigue down the line.
