Chavez earned his way into he rankings with how he played on varsity as a sophomore and he also backed that up with a pretty solid Summer. We saw at the Expo as well and what really stood out for me was how comfortable he looked. He was hitting outside shots, he gets his feet set on every shot and can play off ball. We saw him hitting tough shots and is a creative scorer. When they tried to take that away he starting getting downhill, got to the rim and used his athleticism. He’s entering the rankings and this year he should be one of the better players in the conference. I am expecting him to have some productive numbers this year with more responsibilities, there’s an opportunity to move well beyond simply being a new addition.

Chavez gave us plenty to like when seeing him play and his perimeter shooting immediately stood out. He showed confidence stepping into the three ball and was especially effective when he had time to get his feet set. He also knocked down a couple tough three pointers with a man in his face while also showing the ability to attack off the dribble and get all the way to the rim. That combination of shooting and downhill ability gives him multiple ways to score. When Chavez gets into rhythm he can quickly become a problem for defenses and showed plenty of offensive upside at The Expo

Chavez was a standout in person, bringing a strong two way presence every time he hit the floor. His shooting ability jumps out right away, confidently knocking down shots from the perimeter and spacing the floor. He showed off a well rounded offensive game by attacking closeouts with purpose, putting pressure on the defense and making smart plays. On the other end Chavez played tough, physical defense, staying locked in and making things difficult for opposing guards. Add in his nonstop energy and motor, and he’s the kind of player who impacts winning in multiple ways. Chavez is definitely a name worth tracking as he continues to build
