About Jabari
Expert Analysis
Steve Quattrocchi | Prep Hoops Scout
Covington is a microwave scorer and playmaker who gets to play with the ball in his hands quite a bit. Jabari is shifty and a crafty finisher who can get hot from three as well.

and Deshaun Jackson. Jabari may be the least heralded of the trio but is the key to a long and sustained run for the Wildcats this season. Covington can create offense for himself and others better than Kinney or Jackson, in my opinion. Jabari actually plays on the ball the most of the three and can impact the game with solid on the ball defense. If Newport wants to get back to Rupp Arena, they’ll need Jabari to play at a high level again this season.

After transferring to Newport from CCPA in Cincy, Covington settles in at 23rd in his first time in the rankings. Jabari has helped get the Wildcats to Rupp Arena and has been a veteran presence at the point guard spot for a very young Newport squad.

The 9th region is absolutely loaded from top to bottom and Newport is right in the mix to win it. Likely still a year away because of the youth on the roster, the Wildcats could make some noise if Jabari gets back to the version of himself that was league player of the year in Cincy last year. Covington can score the ball or distribute and is a microwave scorer that can get several buckets in a short amount of time.
