Steady true point guard that knows his role on his team and plays it to perfection. He’s an excellent ball mover. The ball never sticks in his hands. He’s a good decision maker with good court vision. He does a good job controlling the tempo on when to run and when to set up offense. Off the ball he’s a knockdown shooter with deep range. Defensively he’s a menace on the ball that pressures full court and does a good job sliding his feet staying out of foul trouble. He plays with active hands and seems to always be in the right place on defensive rotations to come up with a long rebound or a steal.

Unfortunately we just happened to attend Columbia City’s only loss of the season as they fell at the buzzer to undefeated South Bend Adams at the Huntington North Holiday Classic. However, we still came away impressed with this sophomore point guard who helps to run the show for a Top 10 team in Class 3A. St. John is a fearless 5’8″ playmaker who finished with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals in that loss to Adams. His ability to create his own shot off of the bounce while also drawing help and creating for others is a big part of why the Eagles are 8-1 on the season.

There is a loaded senior class at Columbia City High School this season and expectations are high. However, sophomore point guard Ian St. John Ian St. John 5'8" | PG Columbia City | 2028 IN is going to be a big reason for their success as well. He might be small, but he is super competitive and fearless as a driver. St. John creates space off of the bounce, makes tough pull-up jump shots, and runs the show for all of the talent around him. We had the chance to see him up close when attending a workout at Columbia City and came away very impressed.
