Berry was at the top of his game from the tipoff, on fire early from three-point range, lighting defenders up with quick trigger releases off the catch while defensively he was in lockdown mode showing switchability along the perimeter, remaining active with his hands when pressuring the ball, and covering tons of ground to contest shots out of his area. His energy, effort, and enthusiasm brought an early spark setting a tone for the game that his opponent could never overcome. Berry finished the game with an impressive 15 points in 15 minutes, maximizing his impact in limited time.

Berry may be one of the most overlooked guards in the class, yet his impact is undeniable. As the organizer for a Little Elm team that surged from obscurity to national relevance, he consistently makes the right reads. While the lineup often features multiple ball handlers, Berry is the connective piece who settles chaos and keeps structure intact. When actions break down, he’s calm, decisive, and purposeful. That maturity and selflessness are critical traits for sustaining a Cinderella run in March.

Ian was a sharpshooting machine for Little Elm on Saturday afternoon. Berry is a very quick and high IQ player who picks his spots well and has no problem firing up shots from deep, even with close defense on him. Ian also knows how to be a consistent playmaker with the ball in his hands and has a knack for finding open teammates anywhere on the offensive side of the ball. I was most impressed with Ian’s off ball movement and this team definitely benefits his style of play with him running around off ball screens and constantly moving even when he does not have the ball in his hands.
