Change: +13 (from #46 to #33)

The physical maturity of Castaneda has continued as he’s grown close to 6-foot-3 and has added some muscularity to his frame. Skill-wise, he remains a true threat on both ends of the floor, capable of scoring all three levels while being a demon on defense – one of the top steals leaders in the state the past couple of seasons.

A consistent scorer who brings a well-rounded offensive game to the floor. Castaneda is a good passer and rebounder who plays well in transition and finds ways to contribute in multiple areas. He has a nice-looking shot, converts at the free-throw line, and gives his team a reliable scoring option. One of the more underrated guards at the 6A level this coming season.

Greysen showcased why he’s regarded as one of the top all-around guards in the area, finishing with 16 points in the game we watched. A quick and aggressive competitor, he excels in transition and consistently creates opportunities with his speed. Defensively, he stood out as a strong on-ball defender, building on a season that saw him rank among the state’s leaders in steals. Despite his size, Greysen rebounds the ball well and can score in a variety of ways.

Honorable Mention

Newberg’s team made one of the biggest jumps from 2025 to this season, going from two wins to a .500 record. A huge part of that increase in the win column was the play of Castaneda who earned all league honors for his efforts. An athletic guard that can really score, he’s definitely a player to watch as Newberg continues to improve the next two seasons.

The sophomore guard did it all for the Tigers in 2025-26, leading the team in scoring at almost 15 points per game but also leading in assists and steals while finishing second in rebounding. A two-way player, he led 6A in steals as a freshman and should be among the state’s leaders as well this season at almost 3 a game. Newberg made a big improvement from last year finishing in 4th place with 12 wins and Castaneda was a huge part of that.

Greysen had an outstanding performance against North Eugene, finishing the game with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists. He also showed his quickness and reach on defense. Last year he was the state leader in steals per game. Greysen, a couple of times displayed his range as well making some tough shots from deep. (AG)
