About Greydon
Expert Analysis

Howell put together one of the best performances we have seen in the state this season. The junior poured in 50 points to lead the way for the Savages. Howell helped steady things early as Ada raced out to a quick 9-0 lead. In a game in which neither team led by double-digits, each possession seemed so important. Howell was a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line and his second half performance of 33 points included both shot-making and explosive finishes. Greydon hit some 3-pointers from well beyond the arc and was also a blur in transition. His ability to take long rebounds and start the break got himself easy baskets at times in this one. As a passer, he routinely played under control when the defense began to collapse and while his teammates missed some good looks, he still continued to trust others and read the defense. His clutch playmaking was superb, providing a left-handed floater with under 50 seconds left in regulation after Ada took the lead back at 55-53.

Since Howell’s freshman season, he’s been putting up video game numbers for Broken Bow. This past week’s tournament saw him go for 41 on Wednesday, then 42 on Thursday. The 42 point game was almost casual. Yes, he’s fast with top tier all around athleticism. But he rarely looked out of control. His loudest moment came early in the third when he went for back to back threes. Then exploded to the rim, took a bump from a 6’7 defender like it was nothing and smoothly finished at the rim. His scoring spurt forced a timeout and extended the Broken Bow lead to a point where they would never look back.
Considering the offers and production on the gridiron, Howell’s basketball time will likely end at the prep level. He’s already made his mark, earlier this season he cleared 1500 points for his caree. And seems well on his way to challenging 2500 career points. A State Tournament appearance has alluded him so far, and the 4A playoffs tend to be a gauntlet. But Howell could be a one man wrecking crew for the 15th ranked squad from southeastern Oklahoma.

One of the state’s best athletes was in fine form to start the game. Racing all over the court to pour on the points. Simply too fast and in control, going coast to coast or carving up the defense in the halfcourt. One take in the second particularly stood out where he seemed to beat the whole team. He split a double, then lofted a tough floater over a help defender. The lefty has a good midrange game and range from deep. Special player, who is a must watch for all Oklahoma high school basketball fans. His QB background was also apparent when he threw a cannon of an outlet pass the length of the court.

Blazing end to end speed, non stop motor and a fun watch. Howell set southeastern Oklahoma on fire with video game type numbers in his first year of varsity action. In person viewings in February and March backed up the reasons to be excited about the speedy guard. He has great short area quickness and body control on drives, that allow him to play bigger this size off the dribble. Keeping tab on the lefty’s shooting form will be an area to watch going forward. But the future is bright for Howell to be the next to carry the banner of big time guards from small towns in Oklahoma.

Named MVP of the 15U Divison by The Circuit’s official site, Howell continues to be one of the most productive freshmen in a talented 2027 Oklahoma Class. His end to end speed remains ridiculous and he’s an outstanding finisher for a smaller guard. With an amazing ability to make one more move or hang in the air a split second longer to get off a shot in contested areas. As the southeastern Oklahoma guard continues his long term development, keeping track of his shooting from is one potential area of improvement. Right now, there’s a bit of a low release point for smaller guard, and it doesn’t look as pure as some of the other top tier 2027 guards in Oklahoma.
Overall, it’s hard to ignore that the dynamic lefty guard has “It”. In this case “It” is a combo of athletic gifts, motor and feel that currently makes him a nearly unstoppable package.

Watching streams and highlights of the freshman guard do not do justice to just how quick and dynamic he is. For three quarters he was simply unstoppable against Ada. He carved up their halfcourt defense with outstanding drives thanks to his tight handle and amazing body control with includes great balance.
Howell is also an absolute blur in transition, even able to push it off scores. Those opportunities provided some of the best displays of in and out dribbles and other hesitation moves where he froze defenders. Then he has the quick acceleration to make it look like defenders are stuck in quicksand. Eventually the waves of pressure and double teams were able to slow him down, but not before he left his mark. The lefty lived at the rim thanks to his dynamic gifts, so it wasn’t a great opportunity to assess his shooting. But he did close out the game drilling a 40 foot buzzer beater when his team was down four.
The southeastern Oklahoma standout belongs in the conversation with the four elite freshman guards from OKC and Tulsa as part of the state’s best in a promising Class of 2027.

The shifty lead guard, is putting up video game like numbers in south east Oklahoma. He’s a huge transition threat, with a mix of finishing himself or setting up his teammates with easy looks. Howell is almost equally dangerous in the halfcourt, because his handle and quickness gives him the ability to put defenders on skates. In games against Hugo and Atoka, both of those aspects were on strong display. Especially with the way he lived in the lane against Hugo. He leaned on his left hand, but he does have the ability to attack on the right as well. With a red hot start to his high school career, the Broken Bow freshman will have the opportunity to put his names all over the record books for scoring.
