Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
He’s a big guard with good positional size who impacts the game in multiple ways. He’s an active rebounder on both ends and consistently finds different ways to put the ball in the bucket. He presents a mismatch problem and does a great job taking what the defense gives him. His positional versatility stands out, and I like how he scores using his in-between game.

-Taylor was really good in his senior night, endlessly bullying his way to the rim to bring his team back all the way back from 17 down to have a shot to win it at the buzzer. Taylor got things going with a 1-dribble pull-up 18-footer, tween tween long 2, long stride pump blew by his matchup into the extension finish at the rim, hit his defender with an up fake reverse finish off a downhill drive, knocked down a baseline pullup in the secondary break, scored on a reverse pivot post fader, swiped away the ball off his opponent’s leg to force the TO with 1 min left down 6, hit a turn around 2 to cut it to 6 again under a minute, and scored off a middle drive into the 2 foot jump stop lay off window to cut it to 4. His POA defensive pressure on the ball and ability to guard up a position gives his team some roster flexibility. The Panthers came into the matchup as winners of 8 straight games, with Taylor leading the way for most of that.

Taylor is another name stepping into a key role as a senior. Although he was the primary option for Pallotti last season, the 6-foot-2 lead guard spent his summer adding more mass to his frame in order to score through contact, create separation off the bounce in the mid-range, and remain consistent with his legs throughout the course of games. Taylor can put up a crooked number in the scoring column and will likely have the neon green light for his team again this winter as they look to surprise some teams in the MIAA A Conference as they enter as one of the sleeper teams. Currently ranked No. 60 overall, a big season could result in a jump into the top-40.

-Taylor’s team got off to a lethargic start in their first game against New Hope but he really turned it up at the end of the 1H and continued in the second half to put the game away for his team. Love the maturity in his game to step up as a defensive stopper after his coach switched him onto an opposing guard that got hot early on, Taylor held him to 5 points the rest of the way. That effort level was apparent on his first possession guarding the new matchup when Taylor fought over an Iverson double screen to dive and slap an entry pass away out of bounds. He collected two steals in a row at halfcourt before laying it off the window at the other end, crashed the glass to hit a putback over a big, hit several pull-up jumpers and turn-arounds in the paint, and was a dynamic slasher throughout the afternoon. Loved the way that he powered his way to the rim through contact, also made good usage of the euro step and stride step to score around the basket. Think he will challenge for 1st Team MIAA this season as the leader of an upstart Pallotti group.

-Taylor is an uber-physical defender that Pallotti uses to guard 1-3 within their defensive schemes. He’s a really good shot-blocker both on and off the ball because of how he anticipates his matchup’s movements and stays disciplined on ball fakes both on the perimeter and in the paint. Taylor takes pride in being really hard to screen and takes his matchups personally with the area’s best guards, staying disciplined to force them into turnovers or tough shots without fouling. Always come away impressed with how quickly his mind sorts through the chaos of beating his matchup to a 50/50 ball or coming out of the other side of a scrum with the rock. Have come away impressed with his year-to-year development in channeling his emotions in a positive way to give himself a turbo boost throughout games.

Scoring 20 has become easy for Greg Taylor and he has shown that all summer. First got things started with Thrill over pre-live and circuit events. Showed early on that he can be the No. 1 option on a winning team. Greg takes no shortage of shots as creates so well for himself off the dribble. Greg operates well from the permieter, gets into his two-dribble pullup virtually at any time. Becoming a pretty potent scorer right in front of our eyes as he enters his senior year. Nothing he can’t do offensively, and his play is being rewarded with another bump up in the rankings.

Greg was unstoppable Saturday in his two games as Pallotti looked great in their first day. He finished with 26 in each game along with 5+ rebounds. The way he scored the ball was impressive, leaving no doubt that he can be a 3-level scorer consistently for any team. His strong summer continued into the day. Looked comfortable pulling up in the midrange over contests, as well as slashing inside and going up with the bigs. Greg is clearly embracing the role as the team’s main option and it has worked well all summer. He has improved his versatility and production level game in and game out. Potential stock-riser heading into the season.

Pallotti has looked great in the summer league, and Greg Taylor has been one of the most consistent players in the SL. I love what Greg does as an attacker, and he is very crafty. Greg scores from all three levels and is a committed perimeter defender. Greg went for 26 points in another Pallotti win.

Solid two guard played with confidence to shoot & attack the rim. Hard downhill driver who can use both hands to finish. Shoots nice floater off the dribble well. Solid on ball defensive guard. Like his size and ability to play on the ball if it’s needed. Note Gregory is playing for the DC Premier UAA Club Team.

Greg Taylor has been great for Pallotti in the summer league. I love what he does on both ends, and he scores the ball well on all three levels. He had a few nice finishes in transition and finished with 17 points.
