Ekukwai, a forward out of Bridgeport Prep in Connecticut, is the definition of a powerful post prospect. The 6’9″ big man has a chiseled frame, next level athleticism, and a motor that is always on. He’s a force as a finisher around the basket, both as a crasher on the offensive glass and a hard roller out of ball screens. Defensively, he uses his athleticism and length to alter shots around the rim, moves well enough to switch onto the perimeter when needed, and does a great job of high pointing rebounds in traffic. His physical gifts alone should have the attention of scholarship levels programs, and when you combine that with his motor, I’d be shocked if he’s not eventually on a Division I roster.

He stayed active throughout, contributing an offensive‑rebound finish, a put‑back, and a catch and finish off dribble penetration. He added a good pass from post, a strong vertical block, and a key defensive deflection, impacting the game on both ends.

Ekukwai, out of Bridgeport Prep in Connecticut, checks in at #9 among the centers and #76 overall. Ekukwai is long, physical, and athletic; he knows what he does well and he plays within himself. The big man plays with a high motor, particularly on the glass and as a rim protector, and does a great job of running the floor in transition. He finishes with authority around the rim and does a good job of moving off the ball on drives. Defensively, his length and timing are an asset as a rim protector. On his physical tools and motor alone, he’s a scholarship level prospect.

One of the bigger frontcourt sleepers in the region, Ekukwai battled foul trouble on Sunday but was still able to show his effectiveness as a rim-runner and interior defender. A native of Uganda returning to Bridgeport Prep with a much-enhanced role from last year, he scored 12 points in the championship game victory while showcasing strong hands with impressive flexibility and vertical pop as a finisher near (and above) the rim. Ekukwai runs the floor well and is an imposing shot-blocker with hints of mobility when stepping out to the perimeter. He also flashed Sunday with an ability to make simple passing decisions from the middle of the floor. With evident tools and having made significant strides in a relatively short time, Ekukwai could wind up looking like a steal for whichever D1 program winds up pulling the trigger on him.

-Ekukwai stood out in both games that I saw this weekend as a physical forward prospect that plays his role to perfection within Bridgeport’s offensive and defensive schemes. The Ugandan native is new to the game (has only played for the last year) but uses his athletic talents to block shots, run the floor, rebound the basketball, and finish above the rim with authority. With good positional size and a motor that always runs hot, Ekukwai has pretty impressive spatial awareness and understands where he needs to be at the defensive end of the floor to contest shots or deter drivers from attacking the paint. The finishing craft and footwork around the basket are still a work in progress but the motor and offensive rebounding ability make up for it as he is very unselfish and is always looking to pass to an open shooter if he doesn’t have a good finishing angle. Intriguing name for LM/MM coaches to track.

Ekukwai, the #7 Center and 103rd ranked prospect overall, is a force around the rim on both ends of the floor. He is an elite athlete that has a powerful frame and looks to punish rims any chance he gets. He does a great job of rim running, rolls hard to the rim out of screens, and can finish with either hand around the basket. He’s a high level rebounder, can guard laterally on the perimeter, and does a nice job of blocking shots both on the ball and from the help side. He has the physical tools to peak the interest of scholarship level programs in his final season of high school basketball.

Ekukwai is a high motored big who makes plays on both ends of the floor. He has a nose for collecting rebounds and is in the right spots. He has long arms that allow him to contest shots. Ekukwai stuffs the stat sheet with his play helps contribute to winning. He is a tad of a sleeper but think he needs to be prioritized by low and mid majors in need of an immediate impact post player.
