About Gavin

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe myself as very athletic on both ends of the court, being the tallest at 6’7 in High school, I play the five position but am really a stretch four. I can play above the rim and hit a high percentage or I can take it outside and make the opponent defend both in and out. On the defensive side I can create havoc as I force the opponent alter their shots if they enter the paint.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have been described as a player with a basketball IQ that is off the charts. I have the ability to take the rebound get it up court and deliver it to the right situation or I can finish it myself. You will never see me loose my patience or my temper on or off the court. I have also been described as a good dependable teammate.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

At the end of my Junior year, I was elected into my high school’s chapter of the National Honor Society, I have also been elected to the student body council. I participate in unified football which allows me to give back to kids much less fortunate than I, by allowing them to feel the joy of sports. I have been recognized by my coaches and opposing schools as someone who lives these values.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Obviously being the Captain of the basketball team since my Sophomore year has given me the opportunity to be the coach on the floor and develop under my coaches. I have learned that leading is more than telling someone what to do but effective leaders lead by example. My coach have noted that my hard work and a desire to win is infectious because I want others to feel the experience of winning.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

As in life there will always be challenges and obstacles, so far I have not run into any challenges that I have not been able to overcome with the help of my family. I have been blessed with a very strong family who has always been there for me.

What type of college are you looking for?

College for me is two fold, 1) I would like to be in a situation where I can utilize my basketball abilities for the benefit of the school and 2) From the school to provide me a great education that will allow me to prosper and be successful.

Our Prep Hoops Indiana Class 2A Player of the Year, Betten finished a fantastic career as a state champion. The Grace College signee averaged 25.4 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 3.3 steals, and 2.9 blocks per game on his way to eclipsing the 2,000 career point milestone. His four-year statistical output is eye-popping and to cap it off with bringing Manchester High School a state championship was very fitting.
