Lengthy and active lead guard who makes a consistent impact on both ends. Excels at getting downhill off the dribble and disrupting plays defensively with his energy and instincts. A top player in his class who has played varsity since his freshman year. Earned All-Conference and All-Area honors as a junior. Nearing the 1,000-point milestone heading into his senior season.

Poised lengthier point guard. Started to get in rhythm in the 2nd half of early morning game on Sunday. Has handling abilities to read the zone and split the gaps. Got to a couple openings driving it. Was able to find opportunities on the base a couple times for takes and hit a smooth elbow jumper. Comfortable pushing it ahead in transition. Helped team to a 4-0 weekend. Will continue to turn heads this year in the East Suburban Conference and will be slated for a big senior season.

One of many talented prospects on this Full Package Black team, Matz did a little bit of everything throughout the weekend while helping lead them to an appearance in the quarterfinals before a lack of bodies led to them sputtering out. He had 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in that contest and a handful of other strong performances in front of other Prep Hoops scouts. The Carmel Catholic product has great positional size and length in the backcourt that, when paired with his skill level, makes him very hard to handle on the perimeter.

Despite the loss to Mac Irvin Fire , I came away impressed with Ethan’s passing vision. He seemed to have eyes in the back of his head at times as he spotted openings that not many players would, dishing out a number of assists throughout the game. One play saw him block a three point shot, push the ball up the floor, and then deliver a no-look assist to a trailing teammate. Ethan was zipping in passes from the perimeter, and also had a nice alley-oop pass to his seven foot teammate off the drive. Showcased shooting range beyond the arc as well.
