About Elijah
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I'm heavily focused on defense. I’m a real pest for the ball-handler, applying pressure and making it difficult for them to operate. I always give 100%. I'm also very intelligent, thinking three steps ahead, allowing me to anticipate plays effectively. As a point guard, I excel at making quick, smart decisions and delivering passes. And as we speak, I am working on becoming a lethal scorer.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I've always faced challenges due to being the smallest on the court, with people telling me what I can't do. I use that as motivation to push myself harder. I refuse to let anyone outwork me. I make my opponents uncomfortable, and I pick apart the defense while also balancing my commitment to academics and excelling there as well. I know that my hard work will pay off and the height will come.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I attend KAMSC, which is a program for students who excel in math and science, that provides rigorous classes for those who would like that challenge. I was also a part of the NJHS, and I graduated with a 4.0 in middle school. I earned leadership awards like the Principal's Award.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I've developed some leadership skills just by being a part of KAMSC. The standard is different there, just like there is a different standard between College and High School. I am basically living the college life in High School, as almost all my classes are college-level, and then I have to balance with sports. I've developed maturity, adaptability, and communication skills.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I've had one problem, which is being smaller, but I always strive not to let that stop me. I have two brothers who are much bigger, but I've always had the biggest determination. I used to be able to guard every position on the court, but as everyone gets much bigger it's not as easy to gain control in the paint, and I can't just go swatting everybody's shots like a taller person would.
What type of college are you looking for?
My go-to college would be Michigan because that's been my favorite college since I was born, whether it's for academics or sports. I'm looking for a big college with a good culture and a good coaching staff that can develop me and help me get to the next level. I'm looking to play D1 basketball, but wherever I end up, I want a place that can develop me while helping me grow on and off the court.
