Michael Roth | Prep Hoops Scout
One of the more fascinating players to scout in Ohio’s 2025 class, the physical talent with Roberts is obvious. On Friday night he had some thunderous dunks when he finally was able to get free under the basket. Minford did an excellent job of preventing Roberts from getting the ball in the paint but a few times he did overwhelm the Falcons with his size and strength. Also showing perimeter shooting flashes, Roberts had a buzzer-beater to end the first quarter and knocked down another 3-pointer on the wing. It’ll be fascinating to see where Roberts ends up at the college level because his natural ability is sky high. We’ll see if potentially a deep playoff run could get him more college interest.

One of the most talented players to come through southeast Ohio in the past few seasons, Roberts has physical tools you cannot teach. It makes sense as his dad was drafted in both the NBA and MLB drafts. For Roberts, consistency will be the key for him as he has the ability to take over games when it’s all clicking. He went through a roller coaster grassroots season where on his best days, he looked like one of the top wing forwards in the state. It’ll be interesting to see if things click for Roberts in college but before he heads there, he has a chance to lead South Webster to a deep playoff run.

One of the more naturally talented prospects in southeast Ohio, Roberts had some impressive flashes on Friday. Knocking down four 3-pointers in the game I was at, Roberts provides an intriguing blend of size, athleticism and shooting. His height also allowed him to grab numerous offensive rebounds. I thought the production started to match the natural talent Roberts has. For him to be recruited at the college level, Roberts will need to stay disciplined and mature on the court.

One of the top 17 U performers in the gym, Roberts really competed on both ends of the court better than I’ve ever seen. Grabbing offensive rebounds, attacking the rim with force and playing above the rim. The way Roberts played on Sunday was indictive of his talent level that is Division I worthy. The highlight of the day was when Roberts attacked off the bounce and dunked all over a defender. Hoping to see some consistency from Roberts with this level of play throughout the spring and summer, if this becomes his true level then he’ll see a spike in recruiting interest.

South Webster looks like a potential contender in southeast Ohio Division IV with Roberts and a nice 2025 core around him. Growing to around 6’7, 6’8 since the last time I saw him play, I thought Roberts effort level was much improved, grabbing a ton of rebounds and making some toughness plays. With his size and length, he’s able to grab balls off the rim he opponents couldn’t reach and was being aggressive by going back up with these putback opportunities. If the shot comes around for Roberts, he’ll have more Division I interest as his movement skills at his size are rare to find. Keep an eye on the Jeeps for a potential deep playoff run in Division IV this season.

Roberts is one of the most naturally talented prospects I’ve seen come out of southeast Ohio since I began covering Ohio high school basketball in 2018. His dad was an exceptional athlete at South Webster, where he son Eli attends, and eventually went on to lead the NCAA in scoring at 28 points per game at Morehead State. Morehead State became the first college program to offer Roberts last week. When watching Roberts, you see some of the natural athleticism and open court talent. Roberts had a big game against Lucasville Valley last season, scoring 24 points in a comeback effort, look for Roberts to have more of those performances this winter.
