Expert Analysis
Kyle Sandy | Prep Hoops Scout
Lawton is an explosive, strong-bodied guard who impacts the game on both ends. He plays through contact and welcomes physicality. Offensively, he’s comfortable attacking off the bounce, getting into the paint and finishing through defenders. His mid-range game is reliable, and he shows the ability to score from multiple spots on the floor. Defensively, Lawton projects as an above-average defender thanks to his strength and lateral mobility. He can absorb bumps, stay attached to drivers and switch onto bigger guards without giving ground. He rebounds his position and doesn’t shy away from mixing it up. Guards built with his frame and explosiveness tend to translate well as they mature physically. There’s still developmental upside here.

I loved how hard Dwayne played on Saturday. He is simply a ball player; no designation of position needed. Lawton helped the Comets in all facets of the game. Likely a true guard, Lawton showed off his versatility playing all over the court. He spent time in the high post and worked hard in the paint as a rebounder. He stretched out the defense when he caught on the perimeter and attacked downhill with both hands. Lawton had some pretty passes off the bounce, dropping off to the open man once defenders stepped up. Dwayne tallied 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in a double overtime loss to North Gwinnett.
