Expert Analysis
John Millyard | Prep Hoops Scout
Payne was the youngest participant (class of 2031) playing in the freshmen event. He had one of the highest defensive IQs and just a solid overall feel for the game. Picked his opponents up 94 feet every possession. It only took a couple possessions and a couple steals before opposing offenses started to completely avoid dribbling against Payne. Sees the court at a very high level and was just making play after play. One of the top help defenders in the gym. Payne already showing to be one of the top 2031 guards but would even make that case in the 2030 class.
