About Dj
Expert Analysis
Jay Frye | Prep Hoops Scout
DJ Hall has established himself as one of the most consistent high school basketball players in the nation, not just in Texas. Last season, Hall led Plano East to an undefeated 40-0 record, capped by a State Championship. With 11 players graduating, many questioned how strong Plano East would remain and, more importantly, how Hall would perform with an almost entirely new roster.
The answer? DJ Hall hasn’t missed a beat. He’s averaging 24.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block per game, all while guiding Plano East to an impressive 21-5 record so far this season. Over the past two years, Hall has secured more victories than most players achieve in their entire high school careers. And while basketball is a team sport, DJ Hall’s individual contributions are noteworthy and stand out as one of the biggest snubs in recent memory.

From the opening possession, Hall established his dominance in the post, creating second and third-chance opportunities on the glass. His intelligence and ability to position himself make him an easy target for entry passes. He showcases veteran-like footwork, using fakes and body control to score efficiently through contact and draw fouls.

The 6’7 220 lb SF just committed to Texas State. He’s coming off a storybook junior season on an undefeated state championship team where his role almost tripled from the previous season. The special thing about DJ after speaking to Coach Wester, is his ability to grow and get better. Wester told me DJ played minimal minutes his sophomore year , less than 5 on average and by junior year he was awarded TABC High School Player of the Year along with numerous other accolades including being a state champion. The coach spoke with me about DJ’s character and leadership. Teachers and staff at school love him, his parents told me that the community embraces him as their own. He’s the embodiment of a team caption.
This season DJ will take an even larger role as the offense will run through him. I’m anticipating possibly 20 ppg season where he will truly showcase his skill set. Coach Wester told me DJ’s best skill is his passing ability and court vision so teams will have to come correctly or he will make them pay by finding open guys if teams overplay him. Regardless he will be a tough matchup for teams due to his size and skill. He looks tremendously slimmer and more athletic which was probably his weakest area last season. DJ told me he’s been focusing on that part of his game.
