About Dimitry
Expert Analysis
Donald Tatum | Prep Hoops Scout
Orchestrating a skilled game with timely shots and precise ball movement, Nard is a cerebral guard with a special handle who effectively uses each teammate’s strengths. His facilitation-first mentality makes it difficult for defenses to contain him, allowing him to control the pace and create opportunities. As the starting point guard for this young Evangel squad, he has the potential to be a stock riser in the state, currently ranking as the #12 PG in Louisiana. The big responsibility on his junior shoulders is well within his skill set, and he’s as tough as it gets—an emerging talent to watch.

Baylor-Nard has physically matured from his freshman to sophomore season and it showed on Tuesday. He had an easier time probing the lane and getting his shot off or finding perimeter shooters. When it came to his own shooting, he made open three pointers from reversals or when he received kick outs. His play took pressure off other guards and showed that Evangel has another point who can handle floor general duties.

Dimitry Baylor was a consistent playmaker at this Showcase. As a small guard, he had all the necessary tools that a coach looks for in a floor general. His exceptional stop-and-go moves left defenders constantly on their heels. Baylor’s use of lateral movement to read the defense displayed his outstanding court vision. He effectively used hesitation moves and shoulder-dropping tactics to take advantage of his size disadvantage against taller opponents, consistently shaking them up.
Although Baylor was proficient in three-point and mid-range shooting, his real strength was his ability to attack the basket. His craftiness around the goal made it easy for him to finish high off the glass on several occasions. As a basketball enthusiast, the kid was exciting to watch because of his creativity on the court. He excelled at getting both feet in the paint to finish with a soft floater or distribute the ball to his teammates. A mix of traditional and modern point guard skills, Baylor is a promising talent with a lot of potential.
