Aasim Sullivan | Prep Hoops Scout
Maiwen is an athletic swing guard who brings real burst and downhill pressure every time he touches it. He’s a true slasher that consistently gets to the paint and finishes above the rim with authority. In transition, he’s lethal—turning rebounds and steals into instant offense and forcing defenses to sprint back. His athleticism isn’t just for scoring either, because he makes an impact defensively with energy, activity, and the ability to guard multiple spots. When he attacks, he naturally attracts help defense and collapses the lane. That attention opens up clean looks for others, and he does a good job finding teammates off the drive.

Maiwen, a wing out of the Knox School, came back into New England and impressed with his improved skillset and ability to make an impact on the offensive end of the floor. One of the top wing athletes in the gym, he has put in considerable effort to improve his handle and perimeter jumper, knocking down multiple shots from behind the arc in the game we watch. He continues to be a high level offensive rebounder and incredibly versatile defender that makes plays in passing lanes, can defend in the full-court, and offers rim protection from the help-side.

Maiwen, a member of the Pro16 League 17U squad, is an athletic wing out of Edward Little High School in Maine. Arguably the most athletic prospect to come out of Maine this year, he’s got serious two-way potential as a budding playmaker and versatile defender. He moves well laterally, has terrific positional length, and posses a threat as a weakside shot blocker. Offensively, he’s done a nice job of developing his isolation game and has drastically improved as a perimeter shooter. He’s a potential post-grad candidate and could wing up being a scholarship prospect in the Class of 2026.

Continuing whats been an early breakout thus far this spring, Maiwen flashed an abundance of emerging talent while still leaving plenty up to the imagination as to what his game could wind up looking like in a few years’ time. With natural grace and blossoming twitch to his movements, he brings outstanding positional size to the wing with a game that’s been somewhat miscast up until this point. Often the biggest player on the floor in his previous settings, Maiwen has been forced to play more inside, but has taken this new opportunity to showcase his natural skills along the perimeter as both a ballhandler and shot-creator. With plans to take a prep year after just turning 18 last month, the “blowup” could be just around the corner for Maiwen as he hits the national stage for the first time on the PUMA Pro16 circuit.

Maiwen, who burst onto the regional scene this summer, is one of the most impressive vertical athletes in the MPA. A standout at Edward Little, Maiwen has played his way onto the radar of college coaches throughout New England with his combination of athleticism, burst, length, and motor. Defensively, he’s a game changer with his ability to anticipate plays before they happen. He’s a terrific shot blocker that covers ground quickly and rise way above the rim to deter opponents shots. He has a great first step into passing lanes and turns takeaways into highlight reel plays in transition. Offensively, he’s best in the open floor or when attacking the rim as a slasher, utilizing his length and bounce to finish at or above the rim. While he’s improved his skill this offseason, he still shines through with his ability to make game changing plays above the rim. He’s a prospect of note in the MPA and undoubtedly will be on a college floor somewhere next year.

Maiwen is one of the most fascinating athletes in the New England region. His bounciness and length make him one of the most explosive players I’ve seen; he got up for some crazy alley-oop, head-at-the-rim dunks on Saturday. He pairs that athleticism with solid ball handling ability and a pretty-looking outside stroke. Sky’s the limit for Maiwen, who should certainly be getting scholarship looks in short order but could use some added weight and sturdiness for his drives to the rim.

Maiwen was easily the most athletically gifted player at the tournament. He’s 6-foot-4 with freakishly long arms and pogo sticks for legs. He can finish above the rim with both hands and seems to have pretty effective touch around the hoop. Defensively, Maiwen has excellent rim-protecting instincts and the physical tools to pair with it. His outside shot is pretty inconsistent, so that’ll definitely be a key development point for him moving forward. Scholarship prospect for sure.
