I really liked what I saw from Boyce. He was always in the middle of the action, working hard on both ends of the court and showing a versatile, team-first approach. That doesn’t mean he didn’t take shots when they were there, but he didn’t force the issue either. He has a strong build and used his athleticism to power through contact and finish in traffic. But it wasn’t just his strength, Boyce has the shiftiness to get by defenders off the dribble, can be creative as he attacks the basket, and moves well without the ball. Defensively, he has quick hands and has excellent lateral ability, which he uses to cut off penetration. He also pairs that defensive quickness with a high basketball IQ to beat his opponents to their spots and force turnovers. He is effective on the perimeter, playing the 1, 2 or 3, but is also tenacious and will battle inside if necessary, pulling down boards in the process.

Boyce had a strong showing at this showcase. A very versatile player at 6’1″, I asked him about his primary position. Not surprisingly, he said he will play wherever he needs to play, typically at guard or small forward. His athleticism and drive resulted in a mix of strong and creative finishes in traffic, while defensively he generated turnovers and was generally a menace to the opposing team.

Boyce is nothing if not relentless. The strong, physical and confident backcourt player loves to get to the basket and overpower opponents with his strength and skill. He is extremely difficult to keep out of the lane because of his physicality and aggressiveness. Boyce played well off of two feet in the lane, and he displayed strong ball-handling abilities. One of the premier players for Milwaukee Audubon Technology, Boyce is poised for a breakout season.
