Expert Analysis
Joshua Burish | Prep Hoops Scout
Loza’s standout skill is his three-point shooting, where he consistently proves to be a legitimate deep threat, but his offensive impact goes beyond just the three-ball. The versatile two-guard can attack off the dribble, find clean looks with smart off-ball movement, and set up teammates with sharp passing. On defense, Loza plays with energy and hustle, bringing a competitive edge that complements his scoring ability. His leadership has been key to the Wildcats’ 6-6 start against tough competition, and he recently joined Lake View’s history books as the third player to score 1,000 career points, a milestone achieved during the Elgin Holiday Tournament. A well-rounded player with a good basketball IQ, Loza should be on the radar for D3 and NAIA programs looking for a shooter who can make an all-around impact.

One of the top distance shooters in the state, Loza returns as a senior leader for the Wildcats, ready to make an even bigger impact. Last season, he ranked as the #3 three-point shooter in the Chicago Public League, and he’s poised to be even more lethal from beyond the arc this year. However, defenders can’t afford to focus solely on his outside shooting—Loza is a versatile scorer who can hit from all three levels. With his scoring ability, he’s also on track to break the coveted 1,000-point milestone this season.

Loza continued to display his deadly accuracy from beyond the arc in this game, making significant contributions with crucial three-pointers from various positions on the court—be it from the corner, in transition, or via a pull-up. By the game’s conclusion, he tallied an impressive five made three-pointers. Notably, Loza showcased a slick pump fake along the wing, swiftly maneuvered past his defender, and executed a fluid stop-and-pop from the free-throw line. A pivotal moment in the first half saw Loza driving into the key, skillfully kicking the ball out to Ian Duhn for an open three. His offensive prowess, highlighted by a diverse skill set, continues to be a driving force for Lake View, bringing a dynamic energy to the team.

Loza can be described as a knock-down shooter. He holds a smooth stroke from behind the arc while adding in a quick release off pull-up jumpers. Loza has also showcased his three-point range extending a couple feet even beyond the arc. A nice and controlled crossover-to-step back move creates separation from his defender which allows for a good shot with his quick release. Even at the free throw line Loza shows poise and calmness with a good bend of the knees and follows through knocking down the shots with ease. Outside of jump shots, Loza has a quick first step with strong and controlled dribble penetration, allowing him to finish in the paint or find open teammates with solid, crisp passing. I’m excited to see Loza’s game development over the next few years.
