Carey Smith | Prep Hoops Scout
Akings (10 ppg.) is a versatile guard prospect who can score in bunches or work as a pass first floor general. The combination of his high IQ and unselfish nature enables Akings to do a remarkable job of striking a balance between those two elements of his game. When he is looking to score, Akings is incredibly effective at producing points on the fast break. In the half-court, Akings can score off the bunce at will. His dribble pull-up game is filthy. He can also get all the way to the rim for lay-ins. If defenders choose to play off Akings, he will drain threes all night. For instance, Akings knocked down 3 treys on his way to his 13 points in Wilson’s 6A 1st Round defeat of Plymouth Whitemarsh.

Akings is a versatile guard prospect who posted a noteworthy surge over the last five games of the 2023-24 season. During that stretch of outstanding play Akings averaged 15 points per contest. That was a significant increase over his season average of 11.6 ppg. Akings also posted a season high 23 points (2 threes) during that run of games. Akings is capable of scoring at all three levels. But his dribble pull-up game is his most effective weapon. Plus, Akings can use his speed and crafty handles to score in the open court. Akings also owns the IQ and court vision to work as a pass-first primary ball handler
