Ontiveros showcased a well-rounded offensive skill set and proved to be vital of Illinois Outwork’s offense. He has a quick first step, crossover and explosive burst to get by defenders and attack the rim. He found ways to score in traffic with crafty footwork, mixing in euro steps, hop steps, and strong body control around the basket. He also stayed active without the ball, creating open looks through cuts and sticking with plays. Combined with his handle and playmaking ability, Ontiveros was a constant offensive threat throughout.

What impressed me about Ontiveros’ game today was his ability to see the floor on drive and kick reads. He was able to get into the gaps and consistently have his eyes up for awareness to see others open. If he got all the way to the rack himself, he absorbed contact regularly to then get to the stripe for free throws. On the defensive side of things, his wingspan provides a challenge in the trap setting. He was able to help speed the offense up to an uncomfortable rate and assist in tallying up the turnover department. Ontiveros helped his team win by a very wide margin to start the weekend slate.

A lanky swing man that can be seen in the 4 spot with length. Got on the floor for loose balls. Flashed into the high post or short corner to retrieve it within 1/2 court offense. Drove it on the base line to convert. Uses jumping abilities to crash on the glass or challenge shots underneath.

He’s another player who played up a level on the 17u team. Lengthy Forward from Morton west showcased excellent footwork around the block for Illinois Outwork. Getting him open for three inside scores early on. As the game progressed, I saw a more creative side to his game. Added a midrange jumper as well as a tip-in to catapult a key 2nd half run against CBG.
