Expert Analysis
Van Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Charles is a long, fluid forward with touch, mobility, and a steady presence on both ends of the floor. Charles is a quality finisher but doesn’t require a lot of touches to make his presence felt. He’s able to establish himself as a rebounder and interior defender who can alter shots or force turnovers. Offensively Charles is comfortable stretching the floor knocking the 3…Still loaded with upside, Charles will be a prospect to monitor in the late signee period.

A hybrid forward who’s been a key piece of two strong DeMatha teams, Thomas III is a classic example of a prospect who would’ve signed to his pick of D1 programs by this point five years ago. Despite changes in the recruiting climate, he’s done enough to be deserving of a chance at that level with his ability to consistently make winning plays in a translatable complementary role. Capable of spacing the floor from the perimeter or finishing athletically inside, he’s able to shine in a low-usage role in either an uptempo or halfcourt game. While not the bulkiest, he’s deceptively strong with a quiet toughness banging inside with bigger players. He’s not the sexiest player but there’s value in guys with his skillset who are willing to consistently buy in to doing the little things.

17p 2r 1s (7/8 FG) vs Phenom
Thomas has really improved as a C+S shooting threat from the perimeter and as a pick n pop big, shooting with a more consistent release point and not hesitating on perimeter looks. His length and leaping ability is showing more on the defensive end as an on-ball defender but he needs to continue fine-tuning his awareness as an off-ball defender and communicate screen coverages at a higher level to stay on the floor at the end of games. As coaches continue to see his 2-way value, I expect his recruitment to pick up heading into this senior year.

Charles Thomas 23p 3a 2r 1s vs Clinton Grace
-Thomas had a breakout performance, scoring 23 despite fouling out with 6 minutes left in the game. His ability to stretch the floor and hit perimeter shots for DeMatha while also providing rebounding and shot-blocking for the Stags was key in building up a good margin in the 1H. If the perimeter shooting is consistently above 35%, expect his recruitment to pick up as a 2-way stretch forward.
