Jones only hit one three pointer on the night, it was memorable one as he pumpfaked and still had time to beat the first half buzzer. Even without his usually silky jumper falling, Jones scored a game high 24 points thanks to his improved athleticism and strength. He put on a show with a couple nice slams, while also earning trips to the line and finishing well even when not given a clear lane to slam it home. With the senior’s maturation into a complete scorer, he combines with Gray to possibly give the Saints the best one-two punch in Class 3A.

The lanky senior guard was locked in from distance as he poured in 22 points, most of them coming off three pointers. He has the wiggle to get separation to pull up off the dribble but also looks great catching and firing. Jones had no back down to his game and it looked like ice was running his veins with no concerns for the big moment that was this game.
The Saints are favorites to make the Big House in Class 3A. If Jones has similar performances there that he did tonight in Dale, they’ll have a strong chance to play for the Gold Ball on March 9th.

Jones and OCS went 2-0 on the week, with Friday’s night victory coming as a loud personal statement for Jones and the Saints as a whole. They went to new OSSAA program Casady and trounced them 72-50. Jones even put an exclamation on the game with a powerful two handed slam in transition. Along with the two points from the slam, the Kansas Wesleyan signee finished with 29 points. Including six three pointers. Next week Jones and OCS will be headed to Dale, to play in the Pirates’ in season tournament.

Jones is a quality shooter, who has made strong strides in his overall game over the course of the past year. He has a “soft looking” jumper, always giving the appearance of going in or getting kind rolls when he does hit the rim. That has lead to him being a very effective shooter in the mid-range and beyond the arc. For his senior season, the Kansas Wesleyan signee will likely be a more complete scorer and effective on drives, as the Saints are expected to be one of the top contenders in 3A.

Jones is another sharpshooter that is becoming a more well rounded offensive weapon. When watching Jones last summer and in a few winter viewings with OCS, he was a quality floor stretcher. With occasional flashes off the bounce. Now after OU and OSU team camp viewings, he’s playing quicker, stronger and more confident. On both ends of the floor. With a long wingspan and developing athleticism, he’s much more disruptive on the defensive end. While also able to put the ball on the floor better when attacking after defenders rush him off the line. Jones is one of the more improved players in the class, all while remaining a quality shooter.

Jones’ impact as a floor spacer is crucial for the work Gray does around the rim. The guard has a silky touch and is always looking for openings around the perimeter for the Saints. He even scored a nifty reverse layup after a close out in the third quarter.
