Jay Anderson | Prep Hoops Scout
Evans was a pivotal piece in North Mecklenburg’s run to another NCHSAA 4A State Title. He took home MVP honors in the state championship game with 24 points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist in their 59-56 victory over New Hanover. He was efficient at 8-for-12 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 shooting from behind the arc. In the Region Finals, he put up 18 points and four rebounds as well. He’s a gritty guard who’s really elevated his game in his senior season.

of Team EAT leads off my list of North Carolina Standouts from the Phenom Summer Havoc. In a matchup with Next Level Elite Poole, Carson put up 26 Points giving them headaches on the defensive end. He looked like a score-first guard on most possessions, but he did show some good ball-handling qualities. Most of all was his vision, where he had some very impressive reads and tallied 3 Assists. Evans is capable of scoring at all three levels of the floor with his ability to shoot over defenders behind the arc, confidently pull up in the mid-range, and craftiness in finishing around the rim.

Evans is a name due to find himself inside the Top 100 prospects very soon given his recent developments on the grassroots stage with BiggerThanBasketball. He’s shown he can lead the backcourt when needed with his ability to attack the paint and score tough buckets while also drawing fouls on opponents. His strength and ability to finish in traffic are tough attributes to come by and an intriguing combination for college programs in the region to start noticing. He’s due to turn a number of heads this upcoming season with his ability to create off the bounce and potentially complement the already talented backcourt of the North Mecklenburg Vikings in 2024-25.

Evans is an intriguing guard prospect to get to know with North Mecklenburg High as the calendar turns. He showed tremendous poise and footwork in the Bigger Than Basketball backcourt as he took over down the stretch and showed off his patience scoring the ball in a variety of ways. He showed he could knock down shots and attack with purpose with consistency this past weekend. He’s poised for a strong senior campaign and due for a major rankings bump following his performance at Raleigh Live.

Rugged combo guard who is going to play a much bigger role in school ball for North Mecklenburg next year, which should help him become a big time stockriser. Not only that, but his play for E.A. Prep Stars has been outstanding so far this spring. His defensive intensity, scoring ability, and facilitating awareness have been his three best traits, all on display consistently as he continues to improve how he can show up night in and out. He is a guy to watch this June and July as he continues to make strides in his game.

Carson has been a consistent contributor whether starting or coming off the bench for North Mecklenburg over the past couple of seasons. As a secondary ball handler, he excels at game penetration, applies defensive pressure, and demonstrates accuracy when shooting off the catch. He adapts well to playing both on and off the ball, providing a balanced offensive attack by scoring from all three levels and adjusting based on the defense’s strategy. Carson is expected to play a versatile role this season, adapting to various needs to help his team secure victories.
