is a 6 foot 2 point guard hailing from Portsmouth, VA. Melo currently plays at Massanutten Military Academy and is one of the poster children for what a military prep player looks like. Melos’ body is extremely developed, and he uses his frame very well, especially on defense. At the point of attack, Melo is extremely physical, getting into the bodies of ball handlers and running through screens. He’s active when faced with a mismatch as well, fighting for post position and showcasing his lower body strength to stand his ground against much taller players. Melos’s center of gravity is exceptional. On offense, he’s a reliable ball handler and plays in the flow of the offense, having hit a couple of catch-and-shoot threes this stop.

He stuffs the stat sheet by truly being a jack of all trades. He can score in a variety of ways, knocking down four three-pointers on his way to 16 points, while also applying constant pressure on the paint. With a strong frame that allows him to eat up space, he creates advantages offensively and keeps defenders on their heels. Beyond scoring, he shows a strong grasp of the game, reading defenses well and finding teammates in scoring positions, making him a complete and impactful presence on the floor. Would be a great pickup at the division two and or junior college level.

Carmelo the 6-foot-2 prospect. Between his intangibles, skillset, and physical tools, the southpaw certainly has a lot to like about his identity. Swinson is a very smart, tough/rugged two-way guard who can fill it up in a variety of ways. He’s comfortable applying pressure as a creator or off-ball threat. Swinson displays a nice handle with sharp vision and the ability to reliably attack off the dribble. He’s a terrific shooting threat who moves well without the ball and consistently knocks down jumpers along the perimeter. Swinson is also comfortable using his strong plug n play size to rebound for his size/position and consistently contains his assignment defensively with no hesitation.

During my stop at EPL, I caught Swinson and his game was very aesthetically pleasing to watch. He’s a 6-foot-2 southpaw combo guard who plays with mature pace that you can tell will translate to the DI level. Massanutten pulled out a big win over Western Reserve on Sunday afternoon and Swinson was part of the 1-2 punch that made it possible. He scored 18 points (7/14 FG) and dished out five assists in just 19 minutes of action. He gets to his spots off the bounce with tremendous balance and there’s a beauty in the fluidity that he get into his shot that makes it look effortless. He showed good ability off the ball as a mover and good command when he was initiating offense as the pace slowed down.
