Newman has had such a special season at Gaston Christian and is simply about as battle tested as it comes in regards to High School point guards. Newman has been playing varsity ball since he was in the 7th grade and it’s all culminated into what has become a memorable season for him and his team in so many ways. Newman’s blend of scoring, playmaking, and defensive impact make him the total package for this group as he makes them go at both ends of the floor. Newman’s improved efficiency from the outside has been something really notable as well as he’s hitting 37% from beyond the arc on over 7 attempts per game. The ability to control a game with his eyes and dribble make Newman a next level ready PG that can impact winning with his blend of scoring and playmaking. Gaston Christian is heading across the 704 to battle it out Vs Concord Academy for a berth in the NCISAA 3A title game in what should be an instant classic!

Newman has been a dark horse for Gatorade Player of the Year this season in North Carolina and I think the bright lights of the playoff will be the perfect showcase for him to show everyone the superstar that he’s become for Gaston Christian. With a 24-6 record, they’re a real threat for the NCISAA 3A title and Newman is flat out leading the charge. Newman is averaging 18.1 Points, 4.9 Rebounds, 4.6 Assists, and 3.0 Steals per game. All while shooting with 44/37/76 splits. He can completely manipulate the defense with his dribble live because of how he uses angles to create lanes for his own drives or passes for teammates. I think it’s pretty clear that he’s a division one level kid and should see more schools come in late as their respective seasons wind to a close. A monster state championship run for Newman and Gaston Christian would certainly help that.

Newman has been a dark horse candidate for all of the major player of the year awards early on when you consider the combination of team and individual success. Newman is truly battle tested, playing in big games against older guys from the time he was in the 7th grade. Gaston Christian is off to a 15-1 start with Newman averaging 17.1 Points, 5.3 Rebounds, and 5.0 Assists per game. All leading his team. As this season continues, people really need to think about Newman in Gatorade conversations. It has all culminated up to this special senior season for Cam, he’s a true PG with great vision, feel, and the ability to take over scoring himself when needed. He’s a confident defender with enough strength to play with a physical edge despite being on the smaller side. Newman is among the best PG’s in the Carolina’s regardless of class, he’ll be a great addition wherever he ends up.

Newman is a prospect who’s shown his consistency in the class as a playmaker and sharpshooter at the point guard position. He produced 17.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game on 78 made 3-pointers as a junior. He’s shown he can knock down shots at volume while also maintaining an ability to rebound and make things happen for others. He’s shown he can operate in a number of ways after another productive high school season. He’ll be a prospect to keep an eye on with Team United on the EYBL stage this spring/summer.

Newman has been a name to know on the PH platform for awhile now in the 2026 class in the state of North Carolina. He’s improved upon his strength and continued to hone his skills as a top shooter and distributor for Gaston Christian School as he looks to make them a powerhouse on the NCISAA stage. He’s the unsung leader for Team Charlotte who looks ready to turn a corner this week on the UAA stage.

Newman averaged 25.5 PPG in two games last week, including a 31 point outburst against Southlake Christian on Friday. Also put up 10 combined assists, his playmaking abilities were evident as he quickly knifed through defenders and hit his teammates on dump offs and fling passes. Also showed off his tremendous scoring ability as he knocked down shots from all levels, and really showed off his ability to get deflation in the paint.

Newman took charge as the game went on as a dynamic primary playmaker, as well as showing off an ability to score the ball at multiple levels. He made plenty of great reads in transition and the half court, punishing defenders all night long. Had some good finishes around the rim and made a couple of perimeter shots on the night. Defensively is scrappy and fights to create turnovers despite ideal positional size.
