Cache Oberg
About Cache
Expert Analysis
Bobby Lopez | Prep Hoops Scout
Oberg will be crucial to Montrose’s success. The true freshman burst onto the scene with 10 straight double digit scoring games to start the season, immediately proving he belonged. Though he cooled off at times, he’s heating back up, coming off an 18 point, 9 rebound performance. At 6’7”, Oberg is a massive interior presence who can alter possessions, control the glass and swing momentum in a hurry which is exactly what Montrose will need in the playoffs

Cache is a big prospect with high upside, and we’re starting to see how it looks when he feels comfortable. He’s an inside presence who is starting to demand the ball. He’s starting to read and react to where the defense is coming from and finishing over the top of guys. He’s also a physical freshman who uses his body, and that helps get him into ideal situations. His impact as a rebounding paint protector has also improved as we get into the best part of the season, and this is a stretch that is trying for him, but he’s learning. I am curious to see him come along, but from what we’ve seen from him in January, we have reason to believe that February will be just as solid for the 6’7 freshman big.

Oberg has announced himself early as a physical mismatch and that should be the case for his HS career. At 6’7, he’s already imposing inside while flashing touch from beyond the arc. That two-way option makes him dangerous. He runs the floor, finishes through contact, and is beginning to understand how dominant he can be. He’s averaging 13.8 points and has 7.9 boards a game to go along with it which is not something you see too often from a freshman. The production, frame, and feel all point to a player that will have a successful highs school career. He’s quickly shifted from an unknown commodity to a piece worth building around and easily makes his way into the rankings.

Oberg is a 6’7 forward who surprised me with his skillset. I was not expecting him to put the ball on the floor and blow by defenders for easy finishes but he had a couple. He also had the hook shot going and showcased himself as a creative finisher. He is very active on both ends of the floor and moves well. He has good footwork, is an agile defender that rotates and is great in help side. I hope to see more of Oberg as I am intrigued with his game. He’s one to watch and I expect him to jump on many more radars, the more people watch him.
