Mathis displayed impressive strength off of the dribble while playing against a very quick Fort Wayne South Side team. It would have been easy to get sped up, but this senior guard stayed under control and used his physicality to consistently get to the rim and finish at the end of his drives. He finished with a team-leading 20 points, but Scecina Memorial came up short losing to Fort Wayne South Side 58-46.

Mathis’ transfer from Perry Meridian to Scecina Memorial, along with the young talent that will surround him, could lead to the Crusaders surprising some people in Class 2A this season. He got hot from three-point range on Sunday at the Metro Indy Fall League in an impressive individual performance. The 5’11” guard also made some crafty interior moves scoring in the mid-range and turning some drives into post moves. After averaging 15.8 points per game as a junior, Mathis is poised for a big senior season at Scecina.

From a statistical standpoint this 5’11” playmaking guard had a big junior season at Perry Meridian High School. Mathis averaged 15.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. Now he will suit up for Scecina Memorial who will look to make some noise as an under-the-radar team in Class 2A. It is fair to expect to see similar production from Mathis as a senior.

Mathis put up big numbers as a junior at Perry Meridian High School averaging 15.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He has since transferred to Scecina Memorial for his senior season. The talented 5’11” point guard seamlessly filled in with his new team in June at the Charlie Hughes Showcase and played well on the UA Rise Circuit with OPS 17u. Mathis has visited Anderson and should continue to garner some small college interest heading into his senior season.

Mathis is one of several talented young players coming up through the Perry Meridian High School system right now. He was a primary backcourt piece last season as a sophomore averaging 6.5 points and 2.3 assists per game. Now, with a year under his belt, he should blossom into a larger role and potentially break into our Top 150.
