Ben Watkins is a 6’5” forward from Oklahoma who plays a physical and aggressive style of basketball in the paint. During the Grind Region Finals, I witnessed his ability to create space between himself and his post defenders, resulting in valuable paint points. In transition, Ben was active by running his lanes and occasionally taking the ball coast to coast. His presence in the paint is reliable, as he consistently rebounds on both ends. I was particularly impressed with his offensive rebounding skills, which significantly contributed to second-chance points.

What’s Next for Ben?
Ben is a current junior at Hillsdale Christian School and is poised to carry his summer momentum into the fall season. In Oklahoma, he ranks among the top 30 players in his position and is considered one of the top prospects in his state’s 2027 class. I will be observing Ben’s recruitment journey between now and his senior year.

It’s been a big spring for the western Oklahoma prospect. He’s blended “hard hat” mentalities with production in the paint. While also having the skill set to play on the perimeter. Capable of creating mismatches vis his combo of skillset and size. Look for Watkins to keep it rolling as a “bet on production” player for Legacy Youth in the 16U division.

Ben Watkins displayed a good touch inside the paint when receiving the ball in the post, in transition and off offensive rebounds he grabbed. At times Ben had flashes of guard-like skills taking the ball coast to coast converting layups at times. He was a consistent rebounder, often filling up that stat category throughout the tournament. Keeping possessions alive for his teammates made a huge difference against 1 Nation 16U which kept the lead up. Ben was a dominant force in the paint for Legacy Youth Basketball 16U all tournament long.

Ben, the dominant big man for Legacy, made his presence felt in every game by imposing his will in the paint. His strength and physicality set the tone on both ends of the floor, as he controlled the glass and battled for every rebound. Offensively, Ben was a force around the rim, using his size and footwork to score efficiently in the post. His ability to impact the game through toughness, rebounding, and inside scoring made him one of the most unstoppable and valuable players in the tournament.
