About Barron

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe my gameplay as a fundamentally sound big man. I rebound well and can pass at a high level. I can also shut down anybody trying to post up by outthinking them. Most of my scoring comes from jump hooks and their counters.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

My mentality is work smarter and harder. The post is a tactical yet physical war that I know can’t be won with only one of the two factors. If I outthink and outwork my opponent it doesn’t leave any gaps.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have received a Summa Cum Laude in each of the last four years for my performance on the National Latin Exam. I have been on the deans list for both my years of high school. I participate in a weekly, student-led, mental health council and am a school ambassador for incoming families and faculty. I am also a member of the cooking club at school.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I think leadership is something that I’ve really developed recently. I’ve always been the one to plan an event or lead something but as a freshman and sophomore, there were older guys who were already established as leaders but last year we had 7 seniors graduate which left the door open. I was able to put my skills to work on my club team and school team this summer and will continue that.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

The biggest challenge I’ve faced is not fitting the mold of a traditional basketball player. I enjoy learning and don’t really enjoy partying. I love board games and inventing things. At first, I wanted to fit in with my teammates but in doing so I wasn’t true to myself. I overcame this challenge by realizing that it’s okay (and even good) to be unique.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a school with balance between academics and basketball. As I said earlier, I love to learn and I want education to be at the forefront of my college experience. I also want an athletic program that wants to win. I think my greatest skill is being a winner. I do the little things well and I want to be in a program that emphasizes that.
