About A’Zon
Expert Analysis
Joe Esquivel-Murphy | Prep Hoops Scout
Young has the ability to play either forward spot and should put that on display this summer and winter. The 6’4 forward has a good first step, which he uses to get into the paint and has a nice touch around the rim. Young moves well without the ball in his hands, freeing himself for open layups and jumpers in the half court. He fights for rebounds on both ends of the floor and uses his length to get deflections on defense. Young is a tough forward prospect who should continue to impact the game at both ends of the floor.

Young can contribute to all levels of the game as he can use his 6’3″ size to play and guard multiple positions. He can get to the rim with his speed and quickness paired with his tight handles as he looks to seek contact to force more pressure on defenses. His midrange game is smooth with him being able to hit tough step-back contested shots. Young’s three-point shooting ability is consistent enough to make defenders think twice before thinking about how to guard him. On defense, he will pick anyone up full court and will look to intercept passing lanes.

Young plays under control but with a lot of speed and quickness added to it. He knows when to use his speed in different situations and takes advantage of that. His ball security when driving to the rim is strong as defenders rarely poke it free. Young will put a body on a defender and looks to create separation in the air. He can do many different crafty finishes around the rim or look to hit the short post-turnaround shot.
