Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
Sutton is a big methodical guard who thrives navigating to the rack on the attack. He has long branchlike arms that allow him to shoot over smaller guards. Sutton does a really good job of using his angles when he is going downhill. His basketball IQ is at a high level. He is very acrobatic when on the attack and does a good job hiding the ball from shot-blockers. One the defensive end Sutton does a good job finding steals, rebounds, and blocks. He keeps getting better with time. Sutton would be a great candidate for a postgraduate year!

Sutton, a heady lead guard at Hillhouse, stands out in the CIAC with his ability to take over games on both ends of the floor. A bigger guard, Sutton has proven capable of being a lockdown defender at multiple spots on the floor. One of the top floor generals in Connecticut, he makes just as big of an impact on the defensive end of floor as he does the offensive. He has terrific positional size, does a good job of sitting in a stance and moving his feet, and rebounds the position well. He’s a high IQ defender that is regularly in the right position off the ball, can read the play in advance, and doesn’t take unnecessary gambles. He’s tough on the ball, can slide up and guard bigger wings, and won’t take plays off on that end of the floor. He’s a well rounded prospect on the offensive end of the floor, capable of running an offense and getting his own buckets when needed. He should contend for all-state honors in the CIAC and will look to lead Hillhouse on a deep playoff run this winter.

had great moments on the floor and looked the part athletically versus the field. He looked great running the floor, and his speed and fluidity translated in both the half-court and full-court setting. As the ball handler, he displayed a comfortable dribble and was reading the defense well on his drive and kick attempts. He hit a three-pointer off movement which looked solid, and even finished a lob attempt off the glass by pushing the pace in transition. Defensively, the intensity he showed was also impressive, and was making things difficult when guarding the ball.

Sutton, who plays for one of the most respected high school programs in the region at Hillhouse, had a terrific spring and summer on the travel circuit with Connecticut Elite. A big lead guard, Sutton does a great job of running an offense and finding his teammates in positions to score. He has high level floor vision and with his size, can make passes over the defense. He’s got long strides, a tight handle, and the ability to finish above the rim with power. Right now, he shines defensively as he can guard any perimeter spot and is disruptive both on and off the ball. He has a great feel for the game on that end of the floor, often finding himself in the right spots, and quickly turning defense into easy offense. He has all the physical tools to be a high level recruit and played his way onto the radar of numerous Division I coaches this summer.
