Previously known more for his abilities on the football field than on the hardwood, Ashton has had a big summer and moves up from 83rd to 61st in this update. Pflugner should fit in the Catholic lineup right away as a bigger version of what they just had in Hank Woodall. Ashton is a good athlete who is comfortable finishing around the rim over either shoulder and has the toughness you’d expect from a player being recruited as a tight end by multiple D1 schools.

The hosts of the event got battle tested by some of the top teams in Kentucky and had a nice weekend with a bunch of college coaches watching them during each time slot. The game I caught of Pflunger’s was impressive as he was physical on the interior and scoring efficiently in the paint. Pflunger had a slam dunk from the dunker spot off two feet as he has the length and explosiveness to play above the rim without needing a running start. I also thought Pflunger set strong screens that he scored as a roll man to the rim off. A multi-sport athlete, Pflunger holds a couple of FCS football offers but would also be a valuable small college basketball player if he so desired.

A bruiser on the court, Pflugner is in line for a much bigger role on the basketball court for the Knights next season. As a tight end prospect, Ashton holds multiple D1 offers and should be a top football recruit in Kentucky in the 27 class.

I caught one game of Ky Future Elite 16 U and Pflunger impressed me with his rebounding ability and how he impacted the game in simple but effective ways. Pflunger attacked the ball off the rim and got a couple contested rebounds for his team. I also liked how he moved without the basketball and made simple passes to his teammates. Able to execute set plays as well, Pflunger scored off a BLOB and shortly after had a left-handed finish at the rim. Always nice to see a young big who shows a high basketball IQ and can catch and finish at the rim.

A kid who was not on my radar before this season, Ashton looks like he’s going to keep growing and has a good feel for the game. He worked his way into a role this season for the Knights but if he continues growing, Pflugner could be an actual impact player for Catholic over the next two years.

I was just able to see Flugner for the first time last week and he left a strong impression. Currently a role player for Lex Cath, Ashton has a big body and knows how to score around the bucket. He plays hard and is competitive for every loose ball. More of a bruiser right now, I’d be interested to see if the big man can step out and shoot some as well.
