Princeton is a team I’ve gotten the chance to watch a lot over the fall scrimmage season and each time I walk away impressed with Phillips defensive impact, motor and athleticism. Checking those three boxes are key as a role player who won’t be expected to lead the team in scoring this season. Despite an early loss, I don’t expect Princeton to take many more this season with their depth of talent.

Princeton is one of my favorite teams to watch in the state because of their grit and toughness. Even when they get down early, the Vikings showed no fear and immediately got back into the game. Phillips had a couple monster dunks including one all over a Reynoldsburg defender in a showdown between top 10 teams in Division I. When games get chippy and you need toughness to win, give me guys like Phillips who rebound, run the floor and give extra efforts.

An athletic and long wing athlete, Phillips has the tools you’d look for in a defender to guard multiple positions. Playing on a Princeton team that wants to pressure the basketball no matter where it is, Phillips fits in well with that chaotic style of play. While Phillips makes most of his impact on the defensive end of the court, he also runs in transition and finishes at the rim. I expect a sharp increase for Phillips in stats like steals, rebounds and blocks per game this season.

Cincinnati Princeton is going to get after you defensively and pressure the basketball, Phillips is a perfect fit for their style of play with his length and defensive activity. I was also impressed by his rebounding ability, getting extra possessions for his team. On a guard dominated offensive group, Princeton needs their wings to defend and generate extra possessions and Phillips does both of those things at a high level.

Phillips played the best I’ve seen him perform on Tuesday morning. A high energy wing with length, Phillips has the tools to be an impact defender. Phillips scored off attacking closeouts, offensive rebounds and even knocked down a couple jumpers. I also liked that Phillips started the fast break after rebounds by throwing the ball ahead and streaked down the court when his teammates g secured the basketball. A wing to watch in Cincinnati’s 2027 class.
