Expert Analysis

Canyon International Academy hasn’t had the season they wanted to in the EYBL Scholastic, but Amier Ali is not one of the reasons why. He has been great all season but he had one of his best performances yet on Saturday Afternoon. It was extremely efficient as well: 23 Points on 8-11 shooting. The AZ Compass Prep defense was focused on Ali, so he was forced to hit tough shots all game long. He is also a very good rebounding wing, finishing with 7 boards to go with his scoring outburst.

The Arizona State commit got hot from the field on Friday, finishing with an efficient 15 points-including 4 threes. He never forced things and was able to put it on the floor and either get to the rim or find open teammates. He has good size for the perimeter and can play with the ball in his hands. He has the tools to be a high level defender and when he locks in on that side of the ball it makes things very hard for his opponent.

The 6-8 small forward plays with length and athleticism on both ends of the floor exceptionally well. Ali is a sensational shot blocker who limits opponents from getting second chance scoring opportunities. On the offensive end he can knock down shots from beyond the perimeter at a consistent rate. Ali can also finish around the rim and has a smooth fadeaway jumper. Ali just recently narrowed his recruitment process down to eight schools: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona State, Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio State and Texas.

Ali is one of the more naturally talented players in the 2024 class with a unique combination of athleticism, size and shooting ability. Making 6/16 3-point attempts on the weekend, Ali shoots a pretty ball out of his hands. Ali likes to make flashy passes with no look dishes often. I’d like to see Ali bulk up to more easily defend forwards at the next level. He recently released a top 8 schools that features Kentucky, Texas, Arizona State, Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan and Arkansas.
