Poage in brimming with potential. The 6-foot-7 forward is extremely skinny, but he moves well for his size and has better guard skills than you’d think given his age and how his body looks. He can shoot it from three and the mid range, he can attack closeouts when bigger players are defending him, and he can finish with touch around the hoop. Poage is nowhere near a finished product, but he’ll go to Rivers as an incoming freshman and will have TONS of time to figure it all out.

Poage, a forward out of Arlington Catholic High School in Massachusetts, makes his first appearance in the rankings at #14 overall. Poage is an incredibly long, 6’6″ forward that already shows some inside-out ability as a scorer. While he has a lean frame, he should be able to add strength over time, which will only raise his ceiling as a prospect. Right now, he’s capable of making shots from behind the arc in catch and shoot situations, shows the ability to make plays out of DHO and ball screen actions, and does a nice job of using his length to his advantage as a finisher around the rim. He’s mobile enough to defend on the perimeter and does a nice job of walling up in the paint without fouling. His combination of positional size, length, and skill makes him a really intriguing and high-level, long-term prospect to watch.

Poage is another incredibly intriguing long-term prospect because of his combination of size, skill and feel. The 6-foot-6 forward has excellent length and uses it in all the right ways. He impacts lots of shots on the defensive end and is also quite adept at finishing near the rim — he showcases some surprisingly good touch and craft. He can also occasionally knock down shots from long range and is only going to continue to get stronger and more athletic. Poage looks young, but he already has great foundational size and skill. Excited to see how he’ll play this season for Arlington Catholic High School.

I wrote about Poage recently but his performance with a new, higher level AAU team (White Mamba) warrants another write up. The 6-foot-6 freshman is incredibly skinny and long, but he has surprisingly good feel and instincts with the ball in his hands. On Saturday, I was incredibly impressed with his passing ability, both in transition and in the half court. He also understands spacing and timing and has really good hands for his size and age. If he can continue to improve his ball handling and shooting – which he probably will with all the time he has – he could be a really interesting college prospect in a few years.

Poage is super intriguing as a long-term front-court prospect. The 6-foot-6 power forward is super skinny and looks like he has a lot of growing left to do, but he already has a skillset that’s well beyond his years. He handles it well for his size and has some nice slow footwork in the paint; he made multiple nice eurostep moves in the lane and finished with solid touch on numerous occasions. The outside shot is still coming along, but I think he has the foundation of really good touch, which I could see being pushed to the perimeter eventually. Too early to know how Poage projects as a college prospect, but the freshman is in a really good place and should have a good chance for varsity minutes this season.

Poage is an incredibly intriguing prospect because of his size and skillset, but also how young and underdeveloped he looks physically. The 6-foot-5 rising freshman has some wiggle and handle to his game but also excels in the pick and roll and dribble hand off game. He understands screening angles and timing, and he can pass from the high post and perimeter. Poage looks like he’ll grow more and put on lots of weight, so his development is far from over — certainly keep taps on him at Arlington Catholic moving forward.
