It’s been an impressive process to watch Belvin go from a back to the basket forward in the first couple years of his high school career to now develop into a true threat playing off the bounce and creating from the perimeter. He’ll be featured on the ball frequently for the Millers this season and gave plenty of examples during the summer from being a grab-and-go threat where he made consistently sound decisions. Polishing this wrinkle in his game adds immense value when projecting for the college level and if he can prove that his skill set translates to wins, we should see a healthy list of schools vying for his services.

Belvin is a long, athletic guard/wing with a fluid scoring ability inside and out. He uses his length to finish over defenders, create off the bounce, and contest shots on defense. Belvin’s court vision and passing ability allow him to set up teammates effectively, making him more than just a scoring threat. On the perimeter, he’s developing a reliable jumper, which complements his attacking mindset. His combination of size, athleticism, and playmaking makes him a player to watch, with potential to see significant growth if he continues to refine his skill set.

-The MVP of the event, our scouts that Belvin had a great showing as a dynamic wing prospect that scores it at a pretty high level. He can take his matchup off the bounce, can stretch the floor with his perimeter shooting, and has a pretty deep finishing bag around the basket. Love the way that he is able to weave through traffic to score around the basket, utilizing his pivot foot but also capitalizing on the space created by jabs or simply turning the corner quickly on his matchup. Belvin should be one of the best players in Baltimore County this season as a versatile wing that has a chance of playing his way into a scholarship.

-Belvin continues to prove his value as one of the most polished scoring wings in the area with a well-rounded performance in this one. He hit his defender with a crossover into the gut drive for the two-handed dunk, scored off a well-timed cut from the wing for the backdoor dunk hit a stepback 3, had a beautifull-timed relocate to the corner for the three. His handle has improved to take guards off the bounce and he’s able to squeeze through tighter gaps in the defense as a result. His versatility as a scorer should make him one of the best players in his league heading into his senior season at Milford Mill.

Akeem had a very productive summer for Thrill AAU. I watched as Belvin made jumpshots consistently from range and from inside the arc. Big guard that has the handle to shake off tough defense and rise over the contests. There was rarely a defender that could slow Akeem down once he got into his bag. His shot creation and efficiency is impressive to see real-time, as he smoothly arranges for a variety of different baskets. One of the purest scorers in the DMV who should see his stock increase by season’s end.

-Belvin debuts within our top 75 in the class with a standout showing in the MBCA Live Period event with Milford Mill. Belvin is a skilled W/F tweener that can put the ball on the floor, pull up smoothly for midrange jumpers, finish with either hand around the basket, and keep the ball high on drives to the rim to avoid turnovers on his way to the basket. Belvin sees the floor well and dribbles to open space in the defense, love his creativity and the way he’s able to change directions on a dime to get to his spots in the halfcourt. Should be one of the better players in Baltimore County this season.

-Pretty easily the most talented new name for me this weekend, Belvin really impressed as a wing that can do a lot of things on a basketball court. He’s got great positional size, can put the ball on the floor, has a fluid pull-up jumper, has great footwork and finishing ability in the paint, and moves well for a W/F tweener. Belvin scored on a face up jumper, had a hop step finish in traffic, flushed a 2-handed dunk on a transition run out, lifted to the elbow in the middle of a zone and hit a nice face-up, and scored off a high dribble pick up in traffic to lay it up with the left. Love his upside as a wing prospect that can score, defend, rebound, and run.
