Al-Matten was the lead guard and catalyst to SEED’s Cinderella run to the Class 1A State title game last year. He scoring prowess proved to be capable of shouldering the offensive production in high-intense matchups and making real waves for both himself and his team. Looking ahead to this season, look for Al-Mateen to show off the other areas of his game and become a true stat sheet stuffer and he looks to avenge their tough loss in last year’s state title matchup and continue to etch his name in the school’s history books.

A tough-nosed downhill Baltimore scoring guard, Al-Mateen will be the engine once again for this SEED team as they come off their state championship appearance in 2024-25. He can use his blend of quickness and strength thanks to his bruising frame to bully his way to his spots off the dribble. He changes directions well and exudes confidence not only finishing around the rim, but letting it fly after creating separation from his man on the perimeter. His jumper still needs improvement, but he’s the type of guard that puts immense pressure on the defense whenever the ball is in his hands. His impact is felt in a handful of box score categories, though. While he can get buckets in bunches, his overall competitive edge comes to light quickly with his energy on the defensive side of things.

-First time seeing Al-Mateen and came away impressed with how well-rounded his game is at both ends of the floor. He’s a super athletic leaper but he compliments that athleticism well with elite shot-making off the bounce from the perimeter. He uses his frame well to get underneath his matchup and draw fouls or get the step on his man to score at the rim. His dominant performance won him MVP for his showcase.
