Newkirk ends his high school career on a high note with Greensboro Day School, closing it out with an NCISAA 3A State Championship. He’s a do-it-all forward who only needs a sliver of space to showcase his stretch-forward ability on the wing. He put up 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals to win the Bengals’ 13th championship in school history. He’ll be quite the glue guy to contend with at Washington & Lee University at the next level for years to come.

On Dec. 18, class of 2025 small forward Addison Newkirk Addison Newkirk 6'6" | SF Greensboro Day | 2025 State NC announced his commitment to Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. The Generals compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), home to 15 programs scattered across Virginia and North Carolina. Newkirk, a 6’6″ combo guard who has flourished under the development of head coach Freddy Johnson at Greensboro Day, will join a W&L roster that lacks size and depth on the perimeter.
I’ve been high on Addison Newkirk Addison Newkirk 6'6" | SF Greensboro Day | 2025 State NC for a while now, and genuinely believe this is the perfect situation for a player his caliber to commit to. At 6’6″, Newkirk is a long, athletic wing who is a consistent three level scorer. His size allows him to play a physical brand of basketball without sacrificing his ability to put the ball in the basket. Newkirk’s style of play, gritty and tenacious on the defense end, while smooth and polished around the basket, has been a best-of-both-world’s situation for any program he’s been apart of.
I see Newkirk’s tenure at W&L being very similar to his four years at Greensboro Day. Washington and Lee is a guard heavy roster that has some established veterans and emerging role guys. It might him a year or two to figure out his role and earn valuable minutes in the rotation. That’s exactly how it went at Greensboro Day, and a couple state championships later, we all know how that worked out. I look forward to keeping an eye on Addison Newkirk Addison Newkirk 6'6" | SF Greensboro Day | 2025 State NC as he wraps up his senior season with the Bengals and moves to the next level. I think his game will translate nicely to Division III ball and am excited to see the marriage between him and this W&L team.

Newkirk had some of his best games as a Bengal this week as Greensboro Day went 2-1 on the week. He led the team with 22 points in a loss to Southern Durham yesterday, and had 16 in an earlier win this week over NRCA. He’s a super well rounded player that is comfortable taking threes as well as scoring around the rim, but his competitiveness and ability to be coached is what stands out with him. He plays hard, seems to always be in the right spots, and just executes with maturity. He’s poised to continue his impressive play.

Sticking with Greensboro Day, another intriguing prospect on this roster is class of 2025 combo guard Addison Newkirk Addison Newkirk 6'6" | SF Greensboro Day | 2025 State NC . While Newkirk did not have as much of a consistent offensive presence as many expected, he showed flashes of his ability to make big-time plays that accounted for big-time buckets. Newkirk is one of the most lethal scoring threats in the class of 2025. He has got a multitude of offensive weapons in his arsenal that can be taken out when the time is right. He attacks the basket with purpose, has proven he can make big-time finishes in the lane, and consistently shoots a great ball from deep. At 6’5″, Newkirk can get to his spots and let it fly. With a highly anticipated grassroots season for Addison Newkirk Addison Newkirk 6'6" | SF Greensboro Day | 2025 State NC , expect this guy to take that next step going into his Junior year. As a role player on a state-champion Greensboro Day squad, sophomore Addison Newkirk Addison Newkirk 6'6" | SF Greensboro Day | 2025 State NC did not have the opportunity to take command of the offense for the Bengals in 2022-2023. That doesn’t mean the kid can’t play. And with some key departures leaving the program, Newkirk will have that opportunity. Newkirk’s approach to 2022-2023 showed a ton of maturity for a really talented up-and-coming prospect. His commitment to the process of Bengal Basketball and his trust in the coaching staff will pay off next season when he is one of this team’s go-to bucket-getters. Although listed as 6’3″, I would argue this guy is pushing 6’5″. And that’s a big deal because this kid is one of the best shooters I’ve seen all season. Has proven he can knock down big-time shots from the perimeter and shoots exceptionally well from three. Has a high release that accounts for an almost impossible-to-defend step-back three. Knows how to get to his spots. Great court vision and basketball I.Q. Really tough defender. Plays an in-your-face, scrappy style of defense that is one of the staples of this Greensboro Day program. Expect Newkirk to take a leap as he gets comfortable in his new role as one of the primary scorers in his junior season at Greensboro Day.
