Will Armishaw | Prep Hoops Scout
Conheeny, a senior out of Portsmouth, left his name all over the record books in his final season of high school basketball. He helped Portsmouth capture the Division 1 state championship and ends his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer, with over 1,600 points. A heady combo guard, Conheeny proved to be a talented, multi-level scorer that was adept at creating space and getting to his spots off the bounce. He impressed in the mid-range, showed creativity as a finisher around the rim, and consistently knocked down shots from behind the arc in catch and shoot situations.

Conheeny, out of Portsmouth High School in Rhode Island, checks in at #37 among the combo guards and #211 overall. Conheeny has established himself as one of the RIIL’s top scorers, using a combination of skill and toughness to consistently score it at all three levels. He’s hard to guard in transition where he does a nice job of putting pressure on the rim and finishing through contact. Defensively, he can guard either back-court spot and does a nice job of making plays on the ball as a help defender. He should be a nice addition to a Division III program next year.

Conheeny, a senior guard from Portsmouth High School, is one of the state’s better scoring guards. He is a multi-level scorer that has the ability to play on or off the ball in the half-court. He does a nice job of taking care of the basketball as a driver, can finish in a variety of ways over size in the paint, and does a nice job of moving without the basketball. On the other end of the floor, he’s tough on the glass and has the ability to guard any perimeter spot.

Conheeny, a member of the 17U HGSL squad, is a playmaking guard out of Portsmouth. Already a 1,000 point scorer, he’s in constant movement on the offensive end of the floor, making him a particularly hard cover when he’s off the ball. He’s one of the better pull-up jumper shooters around, getting into his shot off one or two dribbles and covering plenty of ground when doing so. While he can space the floor as a catch and shoot guy, he’s really at his best as a scorer with the ball in his hands, showing range on his jumper, tough shot making traits, and great touch as a scorer over size in the paint.

Conheeny was part of a BCRI backcourt (and team) that absolutely shoots the lights out. Whether it be off the dribble or the catch, he gets his three-ball off quickly and is super consistent. Like the rest of his squad, Conheeny also does a great job making quick decisions with the basketball; he always knows what he’s going to do with it once it’s swung to him and is a great extra passer and ball mover. His size will make it tough for him to play scholarship-level college hoops, but the skillset is there and he should definitely be looked at by lots of D3 programs. I would imagine he’ll have a huge season at Portsmouth High School next year.
