Aaron Hammann
About Aaron
Expert Analysis
Colby Giacubeno | Prep Hoops Scout
Hammann has Marriotts Ridge (9-1) tied with Oakland Mills atop of the Howard County standings and could make a serious run for county player of the year if he sustains his level of production. A 6-foot-6 guard who can handle the primary ballhandling role, Hammann uses his blend of size and skill to his advantage in an area that doesn’t have many other athletes like him. Through nine games he’s averaging 22.4 points per game and converting on 40 percent of his attempts from three and hauling in over seven rebounds to go with it. Hammann uses his lengthy first step and frame to establish driving lanes to the rim and does a nice job using soft touch on floaters or off-balanced layups. As a shooter, when Hammann can step into his jumper, specifically off the catch, there’s a high likelihood of his dropping.

Hammann presents as the most intriguing college prospect given his combination of size, skill and overall fluidity. At 6-foot-6, he spent much of the evening initiating the continuity offense in the half court that consistently generated clean looks for his team. Hammann plays to his pace, uses his size to overlook the defense for cutters everywhere on the floor and driving lanes presented themselves, he used his long stride to get to the rim. He wasn’t as effective when contact was involved en route to the basket or on attempts around it, but Hammann was quick to collect his own misses for put-backs. Where he was best was playing on the perimeter as the Long Reach defense went into scramble mode. Hammann found open windows, awaited swing passes and stepping into three’s with beautiful form. The senior wing led Ridge 20 points in the win.
