Russ Beck | Prep Hoops Scout
Russ Beck is no stranger to basketball here in the state of Utah. Beck’s love for the game began during a golden era of basketball in the state with teams coached by legends such as Jerry Sloan, Rick Majerus, Stew Morrill and Roger Reid.
In 2004, Beck was determined to fulfill his own coaching dream and got his start at Dixie State Junior College working under Jeff Kidder. Beck then went on to experience successful assistant coaching stops at Southern Utah University and National Junior College powerhouses such as The College of Southern Idaho and Salt Lake Community College. He was key in recruiting players for both programs that led both schools to NJCAA National Titles.
That success presented Beck with the opportunity to take the Head Coaching position at Western Nebraska Community College where he spent 7 years and left the program as the 4th all time winningest coach in program history.
Most recently Beck served as the Head Coach at Box Elder High School developing a young nucleus of promising players. Prior to coaching the Bees, Beck rebuilt the men’s basketball program at the College of Southern Nevada. The program had been dormant since 2004. Prior to CSN, Beck spent time as the head coach at Cedar High and was the architect that built the 4A State Championship team of 2021.
In all, Russ Beck has 20 years of coaching experience at the NCAA D1, NJCAA D1, High School and AAU level. This includes 15 years as a head coach and 15 years at the college level.
Beck has also worked several prestigious summer camps including Double Pump’s West Coast All-Star camp, USC Elite camp. Additionally, Beck served as the Camp Director for US Sports Camp Nike Basketball Youth Camps in Las Vegas and Mesquite.
Beck is excited to take on this new venture as a scout for Prep Hoops here in Utah. According to Beck, “We have a lot of basketball talent here in Utah. My goal is to put a spotlight on that talent with my coverage and help as many kids as I can play at the highest level possible”
