Scouting Minnesota – Nevis is Looking for Gold

<p>***Photo from the Nevis Hudl page</p> <p>To win a state title a team needs talent and collective execution, and even more they need a returning group of talented players that have collectively executed for success.  That is Nevis. </p> <p>When you look through the final top ten of the Class A season you notice that most of last year’s top teams graduated their top talent.  Because of that the Class A field is wide open.  Coming off of a 24-4 season the Tigers bring back four starters as well as their sixth man.  </p> <p>Six-foot-2022 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="958734" first="Eddie" last="Kramer"]</strong> does not need many words to describe what he does, and does well: Kramer shoots the ball from the arc with the best in the state of Minnesota.  And he does it in bunches and loves to do it when games are close.  Kramer led the team in scoring at 21.3 points a <span id="YpdXK" class="intexthighlight">game and once this season he knocked out 11 threes</span>. 11?  Yes Eleven.   Had another game knocking out ten triples leading to one of his four 30 point games. Kramer is six feet tall and reminds me a lot of [player_tooltip player_id="567070" first="Drew" last="Sagedahl"] from BOLD high school as a young player (Drew will enter next year as a preseason all state player). </p> <p>The six foot controlling point guard of this successful crew is <strong>Derek Lindow,</strong> a senior-to-be.  Derek is one of the most intelligent, creative distributors in Class A basketball.  Averaged a dozen points, five assists, and two steals a game as a junior consistently looking to put others in the right places to score.  </p> <p>The Lindow’s assist numbers were down this year for two reasons: 1) the team moves the ball so well that it’s hard for any one player to have a huge number of assists and 2) 2022 guard <strong>Matthias Warrington</strong> had a fantastic all around sophomore year averaging 15 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.3 assists per game.  Warrington’s main attribute is his defensive abilities.  He pressures the ball with relentless activity which not only led to the league lead in steals plus several games rattling his man.  Warrington is 5-foot-10 and exceptionally quick meaning he was at the rim in every northern Minnesota city he played in.  </p> <p>Another 2022 to know is <strong>Cain Mitchell</strong>, the team’s 6th man.  Mitchell is the size of a guard at 5-foot-10 but on this team he filled in actively at both forward spots when players needed a breather. You can expect him to slide in as the fifth starter.  </p> <p>Nevis has one concern and that is size.  The lone graduating starter is [player_tooltip player_id="846214" first="Luke" last="DeWulf"] and he led the team in boards with 6.5 a contest and a dozen points a game.   DeWulf wasn’t frontcourt sized in height but he was certainly strong.  <strong>Jack McNamee</strong> - the team’s 5th starter last season as a 6-foot-2 2021 - averaged 5.5 boards a contest.  Jack is not needed to score all that much but in terms of rebounding Nevis will need him to produce at high levels. </p> <p>Depth? Watch for freshmen-to-be Joe Houchin and John Paul Benson to have roles.  How big their roles will be is uncertain but they are the future of the program.  </p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
